Beat the Fall Rush! Complete SWRA's Required Training Course This Summer

The REALTORS Code of Ethics requires cooperation among REALTORS except when cooperation is not in the client's best interest. In the required class, Putting Clients First: Cooperation, Compensation and Procuring Cause, instructors will engage students in work that will address the ethical and legal issues as well as best practices involving some of the most challenging issues raised by the cooperation vs. client best interest dynamic.
The Summer Schedule for Putting Clients First has now been released. All Suburban West REALTOR members must take this 3.5 hour class by December 31st, 2018. To register click here (once logged in click "Events" and then "Upcoming Classes"). Additional off-site and off-hour sessions will be posted in the fall.
Please note that the Putting Clients First class does not provide continuing education credits for license renewal.

RPAC Telethon Helps Provide Stronger Voice at Local, State and National Level

Over the past month, 22 member volunteers committed themselves to help raise money for the REALTORS Political Action Committee (RPAC). Their diligence in relaying the importance of RPAC and the impact that legislation has on real estate resulted in nearly $32,000 in total investments
Suburban West is appreciative of the 276 members who collectively have helped our industry react quickly to challenges and be at the forefront of issues that are important to REALTORS and homeowners.
The Association would also like to congratulate Kathy McQuilkin for soliciting the most overall investments and Vince Range for reaching out to the most investors!

Education Survey Gift Card Winners Announced

Last week Suburban West REALTORS Association and its school, the Association of REALTORS School, conducted an education survey to all members seeking feedback from the 2016-2018 real estate license renewal period. Suburban West would like to thank the almost 1,500 agents who participated in the survey and announce the participation winners. The following agents will receive an Amazon Gift card for their valuable participation: Anthony Fiore from Keller Williams Exton and Jenna Olivier from Redfin.
If you have not already, we would appreciate if you would complete this 5-minute survey about your continuing education experience!

Sharing Electronic Lockbox Information is Against the Rules

Allowing another person (REALTOR or not) to borrow your physical electronic key or allowing another person (REALTOR or not) to use your electronic key account via a mobile device is a violation of the terms of service set by SUPRA. Doing so may result in SUPRA terminating service and more.

Similar to giving out codes for a combination lockbox, sharing electronic key information is also a potential violation of the REALTOR Code of Ethics which prohibits allowing access to property on terms other than those established by the seller or the listing agent. Such violations are subject to disciplinary action by an ethics panel. Allowing access to property without authority could also result in legal troubles for both the REALTOR and the person gaining improper access. These are just a few reasons why REALTORS should not share electronic keys, the key service or combination lockbox codes.

Clifton Takes Code Enforcement to New Heights

Clifton Heights Borough, citing problems with vacant and noncompliant commercial and industrial properties, is boosting its code inspection efforts in 2018. The borough has tightened its regulations and hired new staff to carry out enforcement. In his first month on the job, John Gould, the borough’s new code enforcement officer, conducted 58 inspections and issued 168 violation notices, plus 127 tickets or citations. He also stopped the work of 15 contractors operating without permits. Gould, who was hired in May to replace Anthony Tartaglia, has been so busy that the borough council authorized hiring a part-time officer to assist him. Read more
