Green Tip | National Parks |
Great Sand Dunes National Park is located in the San Luis Valley of southern Colorado. Cleveland Peak is part of the Great Sands Dunes National Preserve.
|
National Parks are areas set aside by the federal government for the preservation of the natural environment and are America's treasures. There are four National Parks in Colorado: Rocky Mountain, Mesa Verde, Great Sand Dunes, and Black Canyon of the Gunnison. These parks are home to some of the world's most wondrous and diverse scenery. September 23 is National Public Lands Day and admission into all National Parks is free. So why not plan a road trip to one of these amazing places!

National Sheep Dog Finals | Volunteers Needed! |
The National Sheepdog Finals have been a great success in the past years as the participants love to come to Strang Ranch and Carbondale during our lovely Autumn in the Roaring Fork Valley. Part of the success has been the willingness of the Roaring Fork Valley folks to volunteer. It takes a village or valley to host this large of event!

Start Planning for First Frost! |
Frost in Carbondale predicted for Friday evening (9/22)
|
|
|
Frost is predicted when air temperatures reach 32°F (0°C), but also a frost may occur even when air temperatures are just above freezing due to open exposure to the clear night sky, which exposes surfaces to radiative cooling. Always keep an eye on your local weather forecast and plan to protect tender plants accordingly. Weather, topography, and microclimates may also cause considerable variations in the occurrence of frost in your garden.
A special thank you to RVR Residents Patti Crocket and Megan Cook for alerting us that frost is on the way!

We are approaching the time of year when many of you will want to begin installing deer fencing to protect your valuable landscaping, trees, shrubs, and flowers. We are already hearing reports of deer in the area. Homeowners may install deer fencing beginning Sunday, Oct 1 instead of the typical October 15 date noted in the Fourth Amendment.
To read more about deer fencing guidelines, see section 6.58.1 of the Design Guidelines.
