FoodWIse has a vested partnership with Meadows North Senior Apartments Nutrition Program. Due to the established success of the program, we expanded our efforts to the Meadows North Apartments. The family centered nutrition and cooking sessions were provided for five adults and six youth outdoors in Spanish and English. Participants practiced food safety skills through fun hands-on experiments, activities, and chopping vegetables. Families created a fruit salsa and vegetable salad. When asked what the adults and youth learned they shared: “Bacteria is in items and can be contagious.” “Clean your hands.” “Learned how to make salad dressing.” Our team looks forward to expanding this program next year with Meadows North.

| WE ALL RISE YOUTH PROGRAM |
FoodWIse hosted We All Rise African American Resource Center summer program at the STEM Innovation Center for a series of four nutrition and food preparation classes. During one of the sessions, FoodWIse teamed up with two Master Gardeners to bring gardening to students. During this session, FoodWIse did a lesson on healthy snacks and students were able to make a trail mix. With the Master Garden students learned about the greenhouse, planting, and pollinators. Students were then able to transplant an herb and take it with them. Students also learned about composting and why we do it. Students stated that they learned about making a snack that is healthy and able to take with them if they are working outside, or on the go, They also stated that they learned how to plant.

Community Resource Handbook Update |
The Community Resource Handbook provides descriptions and contact information for over 400 agencies and organizations that serve Brown County. Professionals will find this booklet helpful for identifying resources for those they serve.
Brown County Extension FoodWIse developed this resource as part of a food security initiative. Food is often one of the first expenses to be cut when on a limited income. Increased accessibility of low cost community resources to low income families is one strategy to extend the household budget
