UMSL’s new Close the Gap Grant will assist low-income students in earning their degrees

The UMSL Close the Gap Grant will assist undergraduate students with high financial need from across the state of Missouri or select Illinois counties in the metropolitan area graduate with significantly less debt. Students new to UMSL will be eligible to receive the grant beginning in the spring 2022 semester.

UMSL COE Alumna Lauren Schoellhorn’s passion for teaching impacts students at Eureka High School


Lauren Schoellhorn (left) accepts her award for Rockwood School District’s 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year from school board president Jamie Bayes. Schoellhorn went on to be named one of 35 Regional Teachers of the Year and one of seven finalists for the 2022 Missouri Teacher of the Year.

UMSL Child Development Center Celebrates Children’s Center week


The UCDC began their week-long celebration with a special reading guest from the College of Education!  Dr. April Regester, the Chair of the Department of Educator Preparation and Leadership, visited the UCDC and read stories to the children.

Write to Learn Conference Coming in March


The Write to Learn 2022 Conference will be held at the Stoney Creek Inn in Columbia, Missouri on March 3-4. There will be a keynote speaker each morning and two main speakers (one elementary and one secondary) doing full-day workshops on each day. There will also be a limited number of breakout sessions led by state and regional presenters (as another option in place of the full-day workshops).

Doctoral student and former pro baseball player Pete Paciorek connects character education and sports


Pete Paciorek is the founder of Character Loves Company, a nonprofit organization dedicated to using youth sports as a vehicle for character development. Paciorek is also part of an EdD cohort led by Marvin Berkowitz and is examining how character education can be purposefully integrated into coaching youth sports.
