Tips, Tools + Best Practices
✅ Add Alt Text So Everyone Can Access Your Web Content
Digital accessibility is the practice of ensuring that all digital content is usable by people with disabilities without limitation.
People with visual or other impairments may use screen readers to access website content. This assistive technology conveys the descriptions of images known as alternative text, or alt text, on websites to their users.
Alt text descriptions must be added to images by USC Dornsife website editors and are required by the university to meet accessibility standards.
👤 Update Your Directory Profile
Is the information on your public USC Dornsife directory profile up to date or could it use a refresh?
While the look of profiles has changed with the redesign of the website, they continue to be populated with information you update in MyDornsife and should be reviewed and updated on a regular basis.
📞 Activate Your Site’s Global Contact Footer
The ability to add a contact footer to every page of a site that can be managed from one place in WordPress did not roll out until after our new platform launched in May 2023. Many sites still rely on individual contact blocks that must be updated page by page, or they do not have a contact footer at all.
Using a global contact footer offers visitors important contact information where they expect it and helps unify your site.
🔑 Who Has Access to Edit Your Site?
More than a year has passed since we launched our new site and in that time the people who should have access to edit your site may have changed.
Take a moment to review who has access to your site and update their permissions, if necessary.
