#GivingTuesdayNow
Join and support us for May 5 day of giving and unity
| |
| #GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020, as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. Locally, our neighbors are suffering. School closures, layoffs, business shutdowns, and other setbacks are wreaking havoc on our most vulnerable neighbors and destabilizing families once thought to be strong.
Because of you, TrueNorth will remain open for essential services throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
Through your generosity, TrueNorth is stepping up to provide additional food resources to our students, families and seniors through Weekend PowerPacks, increased availability of food through our Food Pantry and additional Mobile Food Trucks for those that suffer from food insecurity.
With your support, we are maintaining our housing assistance programs, keeping people in their homes, safe and healthy.
Your support allows our staff to be responsive and innovative in this time of great need.
At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe. Generosity gives everyone the power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on.
Join us on #GivingTuesdayNow, May 5, 2020.
GoFundMe is offering a $1,000 match for qualifying charities now through May 5, 2020:

Weekend PowerPacks
Filling needs for Grant, Hesperia, White Cloud, CTC
| |
| Delores Curtis knows firsthand that hungry Newaygo County kids are getting the food they need on weekends during the COVID-19 outbreak thanks to TrueNorth Weekend PowerPacks.
Done in partnership with White Cloud Public Schools, Grant Public Schools, Hesperia Community Schools, and the Newaygo County Career-Tech Center, TrueNorth is currently providing almost 600 bags of food a week to kids in need.
“We’ve just had such an outpouring, a call for it,” says Curtis, Interim Vice Principal for White Cloud Junior High School. “I dropped off some to a family, and she messaged me later and said: ‘You just don’t even know.’ And that wasn’t even a family that was normally on our list. And she was just so thankful.”
Mike Voyt, True North’s Special Projects & Volunteer Coordinator, says: “We need to make sure kids have food to eat between the meals they are getting from their school districts.”

Virtual volunteers plug in
Volunteer Resource Center provides remote opportunities
| |
|
The ask by the Volunteer Resource Center of Newaygo County is simple: Spread hope. Give back.
The opportunities are remote, rewarding, and help make a difference.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s Stay Home, Stay Safe executive order is now in effect through May 15 and TrueNorth has suspended all in-person volunteering through then. For those wanting to help their community from home, the Volunteer Resource Center’s Respond NOW to COVID-19 campaign is filling both local needs and the void many are finding.
“We are encouraging individuals and families to use their time at home to give back to their community,” says Lisa Daniell, Volunteer Resource Center Director for TrueNorth. “When a community prospers, everyone benefits.”
The opportunities include sewing homemade face masks for nursing homes, health-care workers, and first-responders; donating food; supporting seniors; donating blood; outdoor beautification projects; sidewalk chalking; sponsoring a meal for health professionals; online fundraising; and showing gratitude.
They all can be found at www.newaygovolunteer.org.

Fighting food insecurity
Feeding America mobile food pantry visits added at TrueNorth
| |
| Enhancing food security is among the essential services provided as TrueNorth stays open in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
That is why second monthly stops at the TrueNorth Service Center by Feeding America West Michigan’s mobile food pantry were added for both April and May.
“We served more than 225 families at both our March 25 and April 8 events,” says Jennifer Zimmerman, TrueNorth Nutrition & Senior Services Coordinator. “That’s more than double what we usually do.”
Participants currently receive prepackaged food boxes at the mobile food pantries, with the next dates April 29, May 13 and May 27.
In addition, the TrueNorth Food Pantry remains available 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. All of our Food Programs’ services are being provided curbside as a protective measure.
Help us out by donating because every little bit helps: www.truenorthservices.org/Donate-Now/Donate/Food-Programs.
