In case you missed it:

Earlier this week, our Board announced that Jodi will be stepping down from her role as Executive Director of Rising Sun in August to pursue a lifelong dream of moving to Mexico with her family. Jodi will be dearly missed by the organization and the community, but we are grateful for her tireless efforts in shaping the organization into what it is today. To commemorate LGBTQ+ Pride Month, we asked our staff to add their personal gender pronouns in their email signature and we made some changes to our logo on our social media channels. Including pronouns in our email signatures makes space that’s more inclusive of transgender, gender, nonconforming, and gender non-binary people and it’s a first step toward respecting people’s gender identity. Happy Pride Month!
Thank you, Accenture! On Saturday, Accenture volunteers stopped by to help with numerous projects, including organizing our space, calling customers, and beautifying our building. Their work sets us up for the success of our programs and increases our organizational capacity, and exemplifies our strong ongoing partnership with Accenture. Thank you!

Extraordinary Tradeswomen

We’re ecstatic to announce that one of our Women Building the Bay participants, Arika, just joined the UA Local 342 Plumbers and Pipefitters union and is the first tradeswoman ever to be hired for the company she works for now. We’re breaking down gender stereotypes, gender employment inequity, and we’re paving a way for women in the trades. Are you interested in breaking down inequality?

Join Opportunity Build!

Opportunity Build has a 70% job placement rate for the fall 2018 graduating class. That means more people are entering the workforce and earning a family-sustaining wage. We don’t just train participants in construction, we prepare them in every aspect for entry into Union Apprenticeships and careers in construction. We understand the barriers that our participants face, and we do all that we can to work with them to overcome any hardships that stand in their way of launching their careers. We know it’s not easy to switch careers while working full-time, and that’s why we’ve designed a nights and weekends construction training cohort to support people who are currently working. Spots are limited, so apply now to enroll in our free nights and weekends pre-apprenticeship training.
