For two weeks we were lucky to have Gabby Olumilua as an intern with the IMPACT team. Gabby will start at GW this fall majoring in Public Health and joined us through a program intended to give students a glimpse into the professional workworld. During the internship Gabby observed a variety of meetings and video shoots, helped test out a CPR application for the Hololenses on the Immersive Learning Center (ILC), and wrote an article for this newsletter (see below).  

Every year EDUCAUSE releases its annual Horizon Report looking ahead to key technologies and practices they believe will have significant impacts on postsecondary teaching and learning. The full report is 55 pages long, but luckily you can read Gabby’s one-page summary.

Just a reminder that you can use PollEverywhere for far more than multiple choice questions. 

• Let students contribute, upvote, or downvote topics for discussion
• Ask students to plot responses visually on a two dimensional scale (or other image)
• Or have students create a Word Cloud

A doctoral student at the University of California at Los Angeles recently published an article responding to her institution’s policy on using artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots in the classroom. In the article, she offers three ways students can benefit from AI chatbots without violating academic integrity policies. They are using chatbots as:

• A tutor
• An on-demand editor
• A debate partner
