Creating AI-Proof Writing Prompts

8 Ways to Create AI-Proof Writing Prompts from Tech & Learning provides several strategies for creating AI-proof essay or discussion prompts. Our favorite (and one of the easiest to implement) - type the prompt into a generative AI tool to get an idea of what a robo-written essay would look like. We also like the idea of thinking about these approaches like the public health Swiss Cheese analogy… All of the strategies have holes, but they create a more solid barrier when layered together.

Remember to set expectations about generative AI use upfront. This form developed by Professor Ryan Watkins of GSEHD can create an attention-grabbing visual to add to your assignment instructions.

Update Poll Everywhere for PowerPoint (Windows)

Poll Everywhere recently updated their Powerpoint for Windows plug-in. SMHS will be updating all classroom PCs. Check that you have the latest version (4.0.1) installed for the most efficient experience and to avoid compatibility issues.

To check for updates, open PowerPoint, under the Poll Everywhere tab, click on the Check for Updates button.

Quality Matters Workshop Invitation

We will be running the online, two-week asynchronous version of the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) workshop September 4-18, 2024 and all faculty and staff are invited to participate at no cost.

This is the flagship workshop for Quality Matters and will be run specifically for Health Sciences and other GW-only participants. It is a great opportunity to learn about the standards in the QM rubric, the concept of alignment in course design, and QM's peer review process. The workshop will feature the 7th edition of the rubric, published last year, which has new guidance for hybrid and online synchronous courses.

Haven’t heard of Quality Matters? It is an independent organization that publishes research-based standards in course design in higher education.
