| Big Red Weekend reveals the threads that connect Denisonians
Before sending his daughter to college, Stephen Clew ’86 reached into his closet and into his distant past for a keepsake that would bond two generations of Denisonians.
Payton Clew ’24 was handed a gray Denison sweatshirt that her father had worn during his time on The Hill. The garment was more than 30 years old and fraying around the neckline and cuffs, but Payton slipped it over her head with the enthusiasm of a first-round pick donning a new jersey on draft night.
The Clews were among the legacy families spending time together on campus during the 2022 Big Red Weekend, a three-day celebration of the school’s deep-rooted relationships and connective threads.
Read the full story about how parents and alums explored the campus, attended special functions and sporting events, and walked down to the village to catch up on life at Denison.

Within the program’s first week, students attended eviction court proceedings and met with renters, landlords, nonprofits, and city officials, listening to their concerns regarding affordable housing.
“It was eye-opening,” Whitfield said.

A long walk in the fight against cancer
Ever since sharing apartments at Denison in the mid-2000s, Julie Wilson ’06 and her college roommates have stuck together. You could say they’re teammates in this marathon called life — a metaphor that became a lot more literal when Julie and her late husband invited her friends to walk the Boston Marathon course to raise money for cancer research.
Read the story of how four Denison roommates reunited in October for 26.2 miles of memories, blisters, and hope.
