Opening of the Academic Year Mass set for Tuesday, Aug. 22, in Purcell Pavilion

All faculty and staff members and their families are warmly invited to gather for the Opening of the Academic Year Mass, which will begin at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, in the Purcell Pavilion of the Joyce Center. University President Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., will preach and preside.

Alfonso Pedraza-Martinez, the Greg and Patty Fox Collegiate Professor of IT, Analytics and Operations in the Mendoza College of Business, examines the critical problem of drinking water access in Ethiopia and recommends locations to build new water projects.

Economics professor Kasey Buckles worked on the Census Tree, a digitized database that uses genealogy research and machine learning to improve census linking from 1850 to 1940.

‘Rudy’ returns to Notre Dame Stadium for free Flick on the Field

Flick on the Field returns Friday, Aug. 25, when the movie “Rudy” will be shown on the video
board at Notre Dame Stadium. The 1993 film, starring Sean Astin, follows Daniel “Rudy”
Ruettiger, who follows his dream to play football at the University of Notre Dame despite
significant obstacles. Admission is free and open to the public. Parking is also free.
