The 2017 IFC and Panhellenic Vice Presidents of Community Service and Philanthropy, Misha Mathur and Shane Mart, organized a school supply drive for children of the Bandza Public School in the Republic of Georgia last fall. Shane and Misha reached out to the fraternity and sorority community at Miami and encouraged members to donate new and used art supplies and books. With the help of the whole community, three full boxes of supplies were donated!
While donations were collected, a Bandza Public School representative wrote to Shane and Misha about how grateful they were for our community's support. They wrote, "I know it’s hard for you to imagine the impact of these efforts from so far away, but I get to see it first hand. These children are so sweet and motivated to learn. They cherish everything they own...What I am saying, is that the efforts of the Greek community at Miami combined with your, Shane and Misha, help will impact exceptional children’s lives."
As Miamians, we strive to live by the Code of Love and Honor. In one of the passage of the Code of Love and Honor it says, “I embrace... the spirit, academic rigor, opportunities, and challenges of a Miami Experience, preparing me to make the world a better place.” The Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils are so proud to support programs that aim to make the world a better place. In order to create positive change in the world, we must first give back.
