Inside The Spartan Spotlight
| |
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Well, we are coming close to the end of another school year. What a year this has been! Thank you so much for the support and trust you have placed in the school to get us all to where we are today. Hopefully, things will be back to normal in the fall of 2021!
As I finish my tenure in the coming days, I want to share with you one of my favorite prayers I use at meetings, Words To Live By. These words are a great reminder to me and hopefully to you too about life and what is important. ...Continue Reading

LETTER FROM THE VP FOR ACADEMIC LIFE
| |
Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, and Friends of De La Salle,
This year, like last year, the May Spotlight letter is being sent out during Teacher/Staff Appreciation week. We have decided to honor our teachers and staff next week, which is the last week of classes for our seniors (May 10th-14th). Please join me in celebrating the resilience, adaptability, care, compassion, and competence of all our faculty and staff. We say this often because it is so true: our educators give life to the Lasallian charism, and they make our mission possible. Our students and our amazing Parents’ Association will use multiple creative ways to express their gratitude to our faculty, staff, and administrators, so thank you all! ... Continue Reading

DE LA SALLE COVID TASK FORCE
| |
| As we come to the close of the school year, De La Salle wanted to recognize our COVID Task Force for the herculean task that they took on more than 12 months ago, to assist in getting our students and teachers back onto campus in a safe way.
The COVID Task Force—which is composed of faculty, administrators, and staff—has done an exceptional job this year keeping us both updated on changing guidelines and safe, as has Mr. Kent Mercer, our contact tracer. We, as a school, have not waivered on our commitment to adhere to the County Health Department guidelines and requirements. In fact, every question or concern that has been brought to us has been forwarded to Dr. Farnitano for guidance to see if we could do more for our young men. Dr. Farnitano is the local authority and the school is obligated to follow his guidance.
While other schools have struggled to open for instruction, we have been fortunate to provide a high-quality, Catholic education in person since October, and we were able to offer many co-curricular opportunities. Unfortunately, sometimes things happen beyond our control – a community member tests positive or comes into contact with another who has tested positive. We have all seen and experienced a lot of disappointment with the pandemic. The Task Force’s main focus for the last days of school is to ensure that our Seniors have the opportunity of an in-person graduation.
We continue to be grateful for the positive, collaborative behavior of all members of our thriving community. We have learned in this extraordinary time that with faith in God, we can do anything together.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

De La Salle is asking parents for feedback about your family's experiences in the De La Salle community - within and beyond the classroom. The 2020-21 De La Salle Parent Survey is accessible on the school's website.
You can expect questions about the school’s communication with you, school culture, the counseling and student support services, and your son’s experiences with co-curricular activities. The survey should take you approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Please note that this survey is anonymous and your responses cannot and will not affect your son’s grades or financial aid award.
If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Elizabeth Berkes, Director of Faculty Development and WCEA School Coordinator (berkese@dlshs.org or 925-288-8149).

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT SUPPORTED THE DE LA SALLE AUCTION
On behalf of the entire De La Salle community, thank you so much for your support of De La Salle’s Spartans Building Community Auction. The virtual event was a great success, and we couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you!
So many contributed - those that donated auction items, our bidders, our generous donors that supported the Brotherhood Fund, and everyone else who participated, you all made a huge difference in the lives of our students.
We would also like to express tremendous thanks to our sponsors for their support of The Spartans Building Community Auction; Custom Alloy (CASS), Faith Lutheran Church, EPIC Insurance Brokers, and MVP Construction LLP, along with our Party Pack vendors; Auburn James Winery, Honey + Brie, and Mike Hess Brewing.
We would also like to thank our auction committee: Winn Aye-Acle P '23, '23, Maryann Barth P '24, Monica Byers P '20, '24, Tracy Chandler P '23, Kathy Cronin P '24, Lori Hershey P '24, Ernest Knapic P '24, Dianne McGee P '21, '24, Liz Mechelke P '21, '24, Kristen Riter P '22, Zaida Rivera P '24, Glenora Salacuse P '24, Kerry Seastrand P '20, '24, and Renee Semany P '22. Thank you all so very much for your time and efforts to make this event such a success.
While we are still tallying our final numbers, we’re excited to share that we raised more than $114,000 through this online event!
De La Salle Brotherhood Fund If you did not get a chance to participate in the auction, there is still time to show your support with a gift to the Brotherhood Fund. The Brotherhood Fund enables all students to live the full De La Salle experience. Several hundred of our young men received Brotherhood Fund support this past year. Food, appropriate clothing for liturgies, prom tickets, fees for Kairos and other retreats, athletic uniforms, specialized calculators for math classes - all these are examples of everyday expenses that are beyond the ordinary reach of many in our community. The Brotherhood Fund helps families meet these needs.

One of De La Salle’s most important programs is the Senior Kairos Retreat. We just finished our last two of the year. As many of you know, Kairos is about the deepening of the relationships the young men have built with one another here at De La Salle as well as with their families and God. It is also about recognizing the unconditional love that is always there for them, even when they cannot see it.
On April 28th, De La Salle celebrated together our Founder’s Day, St. John Baptist De La Salle, with a prayer service highlighting St. La Salle’s gifts and legacy. Several students shared how they have been enriched by the five core principles of a Lasallian education, which are: Respect for all persons; Concern for the Poor and Social Justice; Faith in the Presence of God; Inclusive Community; and Quality Education.
We are in the process of scheduling the 2021-22 Kairos retreats. We will let all Junior families know the details as soon as we have solidified them. We are hoping to open registrations to next year’s Campus Ministry programs by no later than the end of May.
Finally, we will be wrapping up the 2020-21 school year with a Baccalaureate Mass on Friday, May 21 at 6:15 p.m. It will be held out on the football field (weather permitting).

The Parent Association is a group of current De La Salle parents who work on behalf of students, faculty, and staff to support events and volunteer needs.
Recent Happenings: In order to thank our incredible De La Salle staff, we are welcoming our community to participate in our De La Salle Appreciation Bake Shop Event. This is a way for the DLS community to come together and collectively donate to purchase a delicious box of sweets and treats from Danville Bakery (following all food safety precautions, including gluten-free and vegan options) for each DLS staff member. A $10.00 donation will purchase one bakery box. Our goal is to give a bakery box for every staff member so please purchase at least one or enough for all of your Son’s teachers. Boxes may be purchased on the Danville Bakery website through Monday, May 10. Our De La Salle staff will receive their bakery box to enjoy on Friday, May 14.
Additionally, we would like to encourage parents and students to send a note of appreciation to any teachers or staff that they would like.
- Click on the “De La Salle High School” tab on the left-hand menu bar if you’re on a desktop. If you are on a mobile device, scroll horizontally through the menus at the top until you see “De La Salle High School”.

- You do not need special requests
- Click the number of desired bakery boxes you wish to contribute and click add to my order.
