Featured Photo
Thank you Patti Crocket for sharing this week's featured photo with us! This beautiful shot of a bald eagle was taken on the 17th fairway above the Crystal River.
We'd like to feature your picture in an upcoming newsletter. If you're interested in having your photo highlighted in the weekly news, please submit images to: jessica.hennessy@rvrma.org.
Sign and Flag Policy
With election season approaching we would like to remind you of our sign and flag policy. RVRMA's policy restricts size, placement and quantity. Similarly, the same restrictions apply to flags. With limited and clearly defined exceptions, each lot is allowed one sign and one flag. For more information on the sign and flag policy, please click here.
Irrigation Blow-Out
Please be advised, RVR crews will begin shutting the water off and draining the mainline on Monday, Oct. 3, blowouts will start on Monday, Oct. 10.
If your irrigation controller is in your garage, please provide a garage code to allow the irrigation crew access to your controls. You may contact Travis Green, Facilities & Grounds Superintendent at irrigation@rvrcommunity.com.
RVR Rentals
If you are renting out your home in RVR, it is essential that you provide a copy of your rental agreement to the Ranch House. This applies to long-term and short term rentals. Homeowners should also inform tenants of the HOA's rules surrounding parking, trash, noise and other issues that may arise.
Leases can be submitted to ali.royer@rvrma.org.
If you do not have a full lease drawn up, please contact the office to learn what options there are to satisfy this requirement.
*Another important reminder: Per the RVR Master Declaration, a lease must be of an entire 'unit,' whether it is an ADU, caretaker unit, half of a duplex, or single family dwelling. Leasing of just a bedroom is NOT permitted.
Take a walk on the wild side|Bobcat or Lynx?
By Bob Anderson, Master Naturalist for the Forest Conservancy
Bobcats and lynx are genetically related. Lynx are generally larger and taller than bobcats. Lynx are tawny (yellowish brown) with a solid black tail.  Bobcats can be reddish brown to grey, generally have spots on their body, black stripes on their front legs and just a small black tip on their short (bobbed) tail. When a bobcat is walking away, there is an obvious white fur under it’s tail. Both bobcats and lynx have black ear tufts. Lynx have very large feet, 3-4 inches wide. In the winter hair grows out under their feet to give them a “snowshoe” up to 8-12 inches.
Their large feet and heavy fur allow them to stay all year in the sub-alpine (above 8000 feet) forests. Since the lynx do not migrate to lower elevation in the winter, 80% of their diet is the snowshoe hare. Bobcats on the other hand have small feet and avoid snow as much as possible. They eat all small mammals, including small domestic animals (chickens, geese, etc).
There are only about 500 lynx in all of Colorado and they are protected. Bobcats are plentiful and are still harvested for their soft fur by trappers who need to acquire a permit. There is really no danger to humans from lynx or bobcats.

Kids walk from vehicle to vehicle, collecting candy along the way. Some people get very elaborate with their trunk decor and even make mini haunted house scenes! Or, keep it simple, the kids will have a blast either way.

Click here for car participation registration. **This registration is for those wanting to park, decorate their cars, and hand out candy. First Second and Third Car prizes will be awarded.
We have had a blast in years past during this fun event. Click here to see what some homeowners have created before. You can also find some trunk or treat inspiration below.

Reminders & Highlights

Green Tip
Please enjoy the following eco-friendly tidbit brought to you by Friends of the Environment:
It seems obvious in the winter, but do you always wipe your feet really good on a mat or take off your shoes in the house during other months? Maybe your shoes just don't seem that dirty. ABC news conducted a study showing that shoes can contain millions of bacterial organisms. Bacteria live longer on our shoes because as we walk, we pick up new debris that feeds the bacteria. Careful wiping or shoe removal will significantly reduce the amount of dirt and grime being carried into your house. That translates to reduced disease-causing pathogens, reduced chemical cleaning, and enhanced indoor air quality. So get a good door mat or take off those shoes in the house.
Yard Waste Disposal Coming Soon
RVR members may bring their leaves and organic waste to the Ranch House parking lot beginning Monday, Oct. 17. Look for the large dumpster towards the back of the parking lot and please be sure to dump your leaves into the dumpster and take your box or bag with you.
RVR Library
Did you know the Ranch House has a great selection of books for members to borrow?! Take advantage of the Ranch House library by dropping off or picking up books and simply return the ones you borrow when you’re done. DVD's are also available for exchange.
Fence Policy
During the August board meeting, a new RVR Fence Policy and Nineteenth Amendment to the Design Guidelines were presented. The Fence Policy and Nineteenth Amendment will be voted on at the September board meeting.
We invite the community to preview the Nineteenth Amendment and the RVR Fence Policy here:
House Bill 22-1137
As announced in previous board meetings, and reflected in the posted meeting minutes, we are working with legal counsel to amend two key policies, ensuring alignment with new Colorado legislation.  HB 22-1137  went into effect on August 9. The RVRMA Executive Board will vote on the new policies at the September Board Meeting. In the meantime, board and management are ensuring that we are in full compliance, given that CCIOA law supersedes our governing documents.
