To keep the CSUDH community up to date with the latest news and developments regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the spring semester and campus operations, this newsletter will be providing routine updates throughout the crisis.

COVID-19 Paid Leaves

The CSU has paid COVID-19 related leaves available that give employees, based on their represented status, supplemental paid sick leave for a host of qualifying reasons. The COVID-19 Related Leaves will not take away from existing sick leave.

COVID-19 Paid Leaves can be used if you need or have taken sick leave for COVID-related reasons including COVID-19 symptoms, quarantine, vaccine appointments, medical care, family or child care.

Complete details on qualifications and instructions for requesting a paid COVID-19 related leave are available on the Human Resources COVID-19 Employee Information web page.

CARES Act Funds Disbursed

CSUDH has completed disbursement of the second round of funds made available through the CARES Act’s Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF II). Through the CARES Act, CSUDH received a total of $53,618,024, of which $18,481,278 was used for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students. 12,324 CSUDH students received financial aid through this program.

Students may check their status by logging into their Student Center portal. The CARES Act Emergency Relief Fund for Students web page provides further details.

CSU Announces Vaccine Requirements

Last week, the CSU joined the UC in announcing that the university systems intend to require the COVID-19 vaccine for faculty, staff, and students who are accessing campus facilities. This requirement will be conditioned upon full approval of one or more vaccines by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as well as adequate availability of the fully approved vaccines.

This requirement will become effective at the beginning of the Fall 2021 semester, or upon full FDA approval of the vaccine, whichever occurs later. Prior to implementing this requirement, the CSU will engage with the California State Student Association, the CSU Academic Senate, and all concerned labor unions.

Graduation Photos on Campus

Graduates wishing to take pictures on campus may return and do so any time except on the days of the commencement ceremonies (Monday, May 24 through Wednesday, May 26).

Graduates who return to campus to take pictures on other days must adhere to these guidelines:

Follow all posted public health protocols, such as social distancing and wearing face coverings.

Remain outside campus buildings at all times; no picture taking is permitted inside any campus building.

Do not make plans to meet with other graduates while on campus.

Limit interactions with others who are also on campus.

Keep Up the Good Work!

As COVID-19 rates continue to drop in the area, a reminder to those who are working or studying on campus: it is important to continue following all posted health protocols—even if you have received the vaccine. Keep washing your hands, wearing face coverings, and maintaining social distance—both on campus and in the community—in order to keep cases trending in the right direction.

Vaccination Appointments in Carson

The City of Carson and Carson Pharmacy will host a first-dose only COVID-19 Vaccination Pop-up for Los Angeles County residents this Tuesday, April 27. Online appointments are still available and are required. For more information, call (310) 835-0212.

COVID-19 Reporting Hotline

If you have contracted COVID-19, whether you have been on campus or not, please report your case to the confidential hotline at (310) 243-2076.

Visit csudh.edu/together/reporting for more information.

Please note: individuals who receive the COVID-19 vaccine and experience side effects within 24 to 48 hours do not need to call the CSUDH COVID-19 Hotline to report symptoms.

Anyone feeling ill and unable to work after receiving the vaccine should contact their supervisor. Symptoms from vaccinations typically do not last longer than 48 hours. Anyone with persisting symptoms should contact their medical provider.
