Gardening Strategies with Tom Stille |
How can you make the most of water in your garden? With 85% of our municipal water drawing from the Truckee River - drought-tolerant landscaping isn’t just a money-saver, but one of the best ways to protect the Truckee River while enhancing our homes.
Meet Tom Stille. He’s a local horticulturist, landscape architect, and teacher – as well as the owner of River School Farm and a pollinator-friendly and edible garden enthusiast. On May 30th, Stille spoke at One Truckee River’s gardening workshop: Making the Most of Water. Following up on the event, we spoke to him about some of its biggest takeaways – including practical tips for drought-tolerant and River-Friendly gardening we can all implement in our yards.

National River Month celebrates the importance of rivers across the globe and promotes effective ways to save water for future generations. Celebrated in 60+ countries every June, National River Month was established by the UN in 2005. The idea of an international event highlighting the value of rivers was inspired by the British Columbia Rivers Day, founded by Mark Angelo, a river conservationist, writer, speaker, teacher, and paddler.
How can you make a difference, here in Northern Nevada? Get involved by volunteering along the Truckee River. Learn about our watershed through our free event series. Protect the river through your choices at home. Or donate today.
Everyone’s actions count.
