Safety Kits installed for numerous older adults in Lackawanna County
| |
The NeighborWorks Aging in Place team partnered with the University of Scranton to provide safety kit installations for older adults through the university’s Domestic Outreach (DO) Service trip program. This program provides opportunities for students to serve marginalized populations across the United States. The DO service trip experiences occur during spring break each year. For this trip, 22 volunteers provided over 57 total volunteer hours over two days, servicing 12 Aging in Place clients to receive brand new safety kits..

NeighborWorks welcomes two new staff members

NeighborWorks is pleased to welcome two new faces to our staff in David DePietro and Melody Robinson!
David is our incoming Accounting Manager, where he will help manage the day-to-day activities of all financial and business-related operations. He has a strong nonprofit and grant accounting experience background and worked in the nonprofit field for 10+ years.
Melody is our Aging in Place Specialist for Wayne County, where she will help expand our Aging in Place services into Wayne County. She has a background in sales and comes highly recommended from established partners in Wayne County.

NeighborWorks receives contribution from NBT Bank

NeighborWorks recently accepted a contribution from NBT Bank, in the amount of $10,000 through the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development's Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP).
The contribution will support the Scranton Beautiful Blocks Program for 2022. Beautiful Blocks, which is jointly sponsored by NeighborWorks and the City of Scranton, provides matching grants of up to $1,000 to each member of a group of at least five Scranton residents to help them make exterior improvements to their homes. Grants are awarded annually through a competitive application process. Thank you NBT Bank!

NeighborWorks featured on Gettin' to Know the 570 podcast

NeighborWorks President & CEO Jesse Ergott, and Board Chair Teddy Michel recently appeared on the Gettin' to Know the 570 podcast, hosted by ConversionWorx Media.
During the episode, Jesse and Teddy explained the organization's mission of enriching local communities with financial / housing education, neighborhood clean-ups, etc., throughout various areas of NEPA. NeighborWorks organizes Neighborhood Leaders Forum

Our thanks to the University of Scranton for welcoming us to the second installment of our Neighborhood Leaders Forum. A joint effort with our friends at United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania, the program brings together resident leaders from throughout Scranton to network and learn from a variety of community partners.
Speakers at the recent installment included Ann Marie Jason and Kelly Kraycer from the City of Scranton Office of Community Development, Cecelia Monroe from the City of Scranton Department of Public Works, Julie Schumacher Cohen from the University of Scranton Office of Community Relations, and Jessica Ruddy and Jonathan Eboli from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

NeighborWorks Homeownership Center team attends Realtor Education Symposium

Kathi Taveri and Pamela Anslinger from our Homeownership Center joined fellow area professionals during the Realtor Education Symposium last week; where realtors gained continuing education credits around topics like fair houisng, appraising and more. As one of our many focus areas, we were honored to get the opporutnity to host a table and talk with realtors about the programs and assistance we offer homebuyers in our area. We would like to give thanks to the Greater Scranton Board of Realtors for inviting us and letting us join the symposium for the day!
Additionally, we are partnering with the Greater Scranton Board of Realtors to educate GSBR members and affiliates on the local homebuyer assistance programs available to clients. It will be held on April 7 from 9 am to 12 pm at Constantino's Catering, 1385 Lackawanna Trail Road, Clarks Summit. Stay tuned!

Save the Date for Scranton City Pride 2022

Please save the date for Scranton City Pride 2022, as we again partner with our friends at Scranton Tomorrow to launch a citywide cleanup and beautification initiative. Taking place from June 3-11, Scranton City Pride will feature trash and litter cleanups, planting efforts, and other neighborhood beautification efforts. Participants can organize their family, neighbors, and coworkers to do a group project, or join up with a pre-planned service site. Stay tuned in the coming days for more details on registration for Scranton City Pride 2022!
