Dear Fenwick Community,

We have received notification that a Fenwick student, faculty or staff member tested positive for COVID-19.  This person was last in the building on Friday,  October 16, 2020, and is currently isolating, per IDPH guidelines.

Fenwick has contacted the Local Department of Public Health and we are following their protocols.

We will reach out to any individual(s) in another letter to provide additional guidance if we determine they need to self-quarantine for 14 days. Close contact is described as (within six feet of someone, inside or outside, with or without a face mask for at least 15 minutes throughout the course of the day).

If you, your student or any member of your immediate household are awaiting COVID test results or feel you have been exposed to a positive case of COVID please contact the health office.  No student or faculty/staff member who is awaiting test results may enter the building.

CDC Quarantine Guidelines

A few important things from these guidelines include:

  • If you (or your child, if you are a parent) are self-quarantining due to a close exposure to a positive COVID-19 case, stay home and monitor symptoms for 14 days from the last contact with the individual who tested positive.
  • If symptoms develop, your (or your child’s, if you are a parent) close contacts are encouraged to be evaluated and tested for COVID-19. It is recommended that close contacts are tested 5-7 days after exposure.
  • A negative test at any time during the quarantine period does not release an individual from the full quarantine.
  • If a close contact tests positive, please promptly call the school nurse.

During this time, it is good practice to monitor yourself (or your child, if you are a parent) for any COVID-19 symptoms and follow the guidelines of the CDC on how to prevent the spread of the virus.  If you (or your child, if you are a parent) do become ill, please contact your healthcare provider and communicate this information to the school nurse.

With the rapid spread of COVID-19, this is not an unexpected event. We will continue to track confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the Fenwick community and notify individuals who may have been exposed in the school setting.

Federal health privacy laws prevent us from sharing any additional information regarding individuals who test positive.

As always the health and safety of all members of our school community are first and foremost in our minds, and we will continue to follow current health guidelines to protect them during this time. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at dpape@fenwickfriars.com or kmonty@fenwickfriars.com 708-386-0127 ext 170 or ext 189.

Sincerely,

Donna Pape, R.N.
