Gilman awards up to $5,000 for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding to participate in study and intern abroad programs. Eligible Lions who work with ONIF to apply will also qualify for a guaranteed $2,000 towards their LMU Study Abroad program through the LMU Gilman Incentive Grant (GIG). ONIF, Study Abroad, and the Writing Center will provide an overview of our campus application process. Joining the session is Lizzie Joiner '24, a 2023 Gilman alum, who will share her experience applying for Gilman and GIG.

To qualify for the LMU Gilman Incentive Grant, students must attend a workshop for each of the three Gilman application essays or meet with the Writing Center to review all three essays. ONIF is offering evening workshops from 5:30- 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 30, Jan. 31, and Feb. 1; as well as a Saturday workshop from 12:30- 4:30 p.m. Space is limited.

Deadline: January 31Dream FellowshipDream Summer is a paid 8-week, national fellowship of the UCLA Labor Center’s Dream Resource Center. Fellows are placed within social justice-based host organizations and work closely with their host organization to incorporate and strengthen the role of immigrant rights issues alongside the organization’s social justice work. Introduces students to the world of research-based careers by providing paid summer research experiences in all academic disciplines – the biological sciences, the physical sciences, math, and engineering, the humanities, and social sciences. Read more.

FEA invests in deserving U.S. undergraduates who are least likely to study abroad by awarding scholarships of up to $10,000. Eligible programs must be at least 4 weeks long. Applications are open for students planning to study abroad in Summer 2024 and Fall 2024.. Read more.

Deadline: February 15Hispanic Scholarship Fund
Designed to assist students of Hispanic heritage obtain a university degree. Scholarships are available, on a competitive basis to undergraduate students and graduate students. Awards are based on merit and amounts range from $500 to $5,000. Open to U.S. citizens, permanent legal residents, or DACA students. Read more.

Deadline: February 21Legacy Award of the Victims of Pan Am Flight 103, Inc
Awards of up to $5,000 for students pursuing advanced degrees in areas of study related to improved national security and terrorism prevention. Applicants may apply from all fields of study but must make a clear connection between their program of study and career goals with improving national security and terrorism prevention. Read more.

DEADLINE: February 29Center for Khmer Studies Junior Resident Fellows Program
A six-week, fully-funded program in Cambodia for US undergraduates to live and study alongside peers about contemporary Cambodian history and society during the summer. The program strikes a balance between academic rigor and extra-curricular activities, including field visits, and will also focus on Cambodia’s past and present relationships with its neighbors and its place within the Southeast Asian region. This International Research Experience for Students provides a paid summer research opportunity in Puebla, Mexico.
