Hallett Appointed to Depository Council |
Dominique Hallett, government information and STEM librarian, Ellis Library, has been appointed to a three-year term on the Depository Library Council by U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) director Hugh Nathanial Halpern. The council advises the GPO director on policy matters relating to the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) and public access to U.S. government information. Hallett is one of six new appointees chosen for their experience and knowledge of current developments in library science.

| Medina-Bolivar, Team, Find Key Compounds |
A study led by Dr. Fabricio Medina-Bolivar, professor of plant metabolic engineering, has identified a new and sustainable way to produce powerful, health-promoting natural compounds using annatto hairy root cultures. Published in Industrial Crops and Products, the article’s first author is Dr. Gaurav Gajurel, a former molecular biosciences Ph.D. student. Co-authors include Dr. Amit Raj Sharma, Salma Abdel-Karim, Carlos Balmaceda, Jacqueline Vargas Ulloa, Dr. Subrata Roy, Dr. Robert Shields, and Dr. Mohammad Abrar Alam, professor of chemistry.

Segall and Student Publish on Big Data |
Undergraduate business student Prasanna Rajbhandari of Nepal is lead author of a journal article with Dr. Richard Segall (right), professor of information systems and business analytics. The article, in International Journal of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Business and Management, uses a real-world transactional dataset containing anonymized customer purchase records. Their work, titled “The Convergence of Big Data and AI Through Learning-Based Methods for Business Intelligence,” is available online.

Saleh Selected as STAR Luminary |
Dr. Amany Saleh, professor of curriculum and instruction, Center for Excellence in Education, was selected as a STAR Luminary by the Star Scholars Network in recognition of her extraordinary leadership, mentorship and contributions to higher education. This distinction was conferred during the eighth anniversary celebration and STAR Global Futures Forum at the Arizona State University campus in Washington, D.C. Saleh was recognized during a ceremony attended by university presidents, policymakers, and global scholars.

This program identifies, educates and empowers emerging and established leaders.
