Michael Murphy will succeed John Nostrant as Director of Athletics
Dear Fords Nation,

It is with enthusiam that I share the news that Michael Murphy has been named The Haverford School's Director of Athletics, effective July 1, 2018. For the past 14 years, Murphy has served the School as Associate Director of Athletics and as head football coach. He will succeed John Nostrant, a fixture of the community for more than 25 years (read the announcement here).

"I look forward to continuing the success that Haverford's athletics program has had under John Nostrant's leadership," said Murphy. "Haverford has won the Heyward Cup more often than any other school in the Inter-Ac League, a testament to the balance of our program across all sports. As Director of Athletics, I will continue to encourage participation in multiple sports rather than the current trend of specialization in one, as I believe this helps teach our young men to succeed in various environments, now and in the future. I value being part of a community that cares deeply about athletics and its role in the overall Haverford School experience."
Michael Murphy

Throughout his tenure at Haverford, Murphy has focused on advancing the mission of the athletics program in support of the overall philosophy of the School. In recent years, he has worked along with the Athletics Department to improve student-athlete performance through an intentional focus on the strength and conditioning program and facilities. He also participated in the renovation of Memorial Field, the Class of 1952 Baseball Field, the Class of 1975 Field, and Sabol Field & Stadium Track (scheduled completion of fall 2018). Murphy started the Iron Man Award, which recognizes student-athletes who compete in three sports all four years of Upper School.

He has led the football program at Haverford since 2005, winning five Inter-Ac titles in the past eight years. Murphy will continue as head coach in his role as Director of Athletics.

Murphy has received several coaching awards, including the Inter-Ac League's Michael F. Mayock Distinguished Teacher/Coach Award.
I hope you'll join me in congratulating this esteemed member of the Haverford School community as we strive to fulfill our mission of preparing boys for life.
