Protocol for Campus Residents who are Recommended for COVID-19 Testing

Dear On-Campus Students:
As a reminder to all students, if you feel ill and especially if you are displaying symptoms related to coronavirus, DO NOT go directly to your health care provider. CALL YOUR DOCTOR OR CLINIC to receive instructions on how to come in for diagnosis or testing. On-campus, please call the Student Health Center in advance at 870-972-2054. Remember, the following applies to students who reside on campus.
If you are in the Jonesboro area, today would also be a good time to make sure you have a virtual or telemedicine app on your mobile phone. The university recommends "St. Bernards GO" which can be located at this website link.
If you are directed to go to a testing location by your health care provider and do not have a ride to the testing site, contact University Police at 870-972-2093. They will make arrangements to transport you.
We want to advise you today about the on-campus procedures in place if you were to be tested for COVID-19 and then if you received a positive test result. While the following information relates to students currently living on the Arkansas State campus here in Jonesboro, your local community where you live may have very similar procedures.
To prepare, we are advising all on-campus students to have a “go-bag” that has three days worth of clothing, toiletries, medicines, and your class materials and devices. If you become ill and are directed by your health care provider to go to testing, take this go-bag with you. Think of this like a carry-on bag that has your essentials, because students headed into self-isolation on campus will not be allowed to initially return to their residence hall.
Arkansas State has developed both procedures for both isolation (students with symptoms waiting for test results or students with a positive test result) and quarantine (students who are asymptomatic, but have had close contact with students who are ill). In consultation with our medical officers, the following procedure will be followed for on-campus students who are tested for COVID-19.
Because test results take time to confirm, your health care provider will inform you to self-isolate while awaiting your results. Your next steps should be:

- Call University Police at 870-972-2093 and inform them you have been told to self-isolate.
- University Police will connect you with University Housing, who will inform you of your isolation housing location and provide further instruction.
- You are NOT to return to your current on-campus residence hall room.
- Any roommates or others you have had close contact with will be directed to campus quarantine areas.

There are procedures in place to provide meal delivery, laundry service, and daily monitoring of students both in isolation and quarantine. Students will not be authorized to leave their respective spaces until they have been cleared by medical authorities.
The reason for asking all on-campus students to have their go-bag ready is to facilitate relocation and for your personal comfort. Your previous residence hall room will require deep cleaning. It may take three days to arrange for you to return to your room to gather more clothing and personal items, so having the go-bag with you makes the transition easier for you.
If you have any questions, please reach out to University Housing either by email at housing@AState.edu or by phone at 870-972-2048.
