Clin-STAR Research Interest Groups

Clin-STAR Biology of Aging Research Interest Group (in formation) Co-chairs: Heidi J. Zapata, MD, PhD, Jason Roh, MD, MHS, and Mina S. Sedrak, MD, MS
The goal of the Biology of Aging research interest group is to provide a forum within the Clin-STAR community to discuss and focus on biological mechanisms that contribute to aging and age-associated diseases. These include the Hallmarks of Aging (inflammation, genomic instability, cellular senescence, etc), as well as other unidentified cellular and molecular mechanisms. The group is open to all who are interested in discussing and learning more about the Biology of Aging. We hope that this forum will lead to collaborations that will ultimately advance research in the fields of Aging Biology and Translational Geroscience. First meeting will be held 9/24/24 at 2 pm ET. If interested, please contact andrea@afar.org.
Clin-STAR R01/R21 Grant Writing Group (in formation) Facilitator/Chair: Courtney Balentine The goal of the Clin-STAR R01/R21 Grant Writing Group is to develop a supportive community that will help current and former Beeson awardees and other clinician scientists interested in aging research to develop successful R-level grant applications. Each month, those who are interested in presenting can submit a grant at any stage of development (aims page, partially or fully written grant, resubmission, etc.). We will coordinate with presenters and volunteer peer reviewers to find a date and time where everyone can meet for a mock study section in which up to 4 grants will be reviewed by a max of 3 reviewers per grant. In addition to the peer reviewers, each group will also include one senior Beeson alumni or a Clin-STAR leader. Additional groups will be formed based on interest. Individuals are welcome to submit the same grant to multiple sessions for ongoing support and feedback or to submit new grants to different sessions to help develop multiple ideas until they are ready for submission. If interested, please contact andrea@afar.org. We will begin contacting everyone who is interested on 9/2/24 and schedule the first session in September.
Clin-STAR VA Researchers Interest Group (in formation) Co-chairs: TBA Mentor: Daniel Forman, MD The goal of the Clin-STAR VA Researchers Interest Group is to provide a transdisciplinary forum within the Clin-STAR community to support each other navigating research opportunities in the VA and possibly lead to a group paper and/or research collaboration. The group will likely meet every other month beginning in September. If interested, please contact andrea@afar.org

Seeking Authors: Around the EQUATOR with Clin-STAR
| |
Around the EQUATOR with Clin-STAR, a series initiated by Clin-STAR in JAGS, is soliciting authors with recognized expertise for diagnostics (STARD), economic evaluations (CHEERS), qualitative research (COREQ), quality improvement (SQUIRES), and pragmatic trials (CONSORT-Pragmatic). Several articles to date on the Clin-STAR website here, and author instructions here. If interested in contributing to the series, please contact andrea@afar.org.

The Hevolution Foundation and AFAR will provide up to 18 three-year awards of USD375,000 each to junior investigators.
The goal of this $10,000 award is to recognize and encourage early career investigators who have demonstrated bold, pioneering research that is high-risk by virtue of being fundamentally different from standard approaches.
| |
This course will provide intense exposure to current concepts in experimental aging research to facilitate development of independent research programs. The deadline to apply is July 8, 2024.
Current and previous K awardees will share their experiences of applying and being funded.

Congratulations to current and alumni GEMSSTAR recipients of AGS 2024 Awards!
Cancer and Aging Research Group (CARG) is collaborating with the Center for Implementation Research in Cancer in Later Life (CIRCL), a new initiative at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Weill Cornell Medicine. CIRCL is conducting a needs assessment to inform development of the center. This study is recruiting researchers in the fields of dissemination and implementation science, behavioral intervention development, aging, and/or psycho-oncology.
