Welcome Grow Serve Celebrate

We give thanks for the ability to gather again in person in our worship center and we give thanks that the number of Covid cases appears to be on the decline. However, many of our church family still feels safer participating from home. After much prayer and discernment and after speaking with those who have faithfully attended our 8:30 service over the past two months, we have made the decision to move to only one service at 10:45 until more of our church family feels safer returning to worship. Sunday School will remain at 9:30 and our fellowship time in the worship center will continue to be at 10:30 with worship beginning at 10:45. We will revisit our Sunday morning schedule as the new year approaches.

Join us at tonight's Brown Bag Dinner beginning at 5:45. Bring your chair and dinner; drinks and desserts will be provided, and a nursery will be available. After dinner, we will have age group ministries.

BackPack Buddies
Food and backpacks were delivered to East Flora Elementary School last week by Laurie Jones, PHUMC BackPack Buddies mission coordinator.
Backpack Buddies is a joint venture between Parkway Hills UMC, the Mississippi Food Network, and East Flora Elementary School. Each week during the school year, backpacks containing seven meals are distributed to children who might otherwise go hungry over the weekend. We have also partnered with the staff and faculty at East Flora to encourage and support students with back-to-school breakfasts and teacher appreciation luncheons. For information about Backpack buddies or to volunteer, contact Laurie Jones.

Throughout the month of October, as we focus on stewardship and pray over our 2022 gifts and pledges, we will use our time in worship to remember the beginning calling that led to Parkway Hills. We will reflect on how we are carrying on that original vision and mission with our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. Parkway Hills began in 1994 with a dream of offering a fresh expression of God’s love through worship, study, service, and fellowship. We began two weeks ago focusing on God’s scandalous, extravagant love using Romans 8. Last Sunday, Romans 14 and 15 helped us see how to be love by being a safe space for those who have never experienced church. This Sunday we will focus on the word “home.” How might we be a people that create a space where those who enter say, “This feels like home.” Our guest preacher will be Rev. Chris Brooking Richardson and we will move to only one worship service at 10:45. With only 15 remaining payments left on our mortgage, we commit to living out the original dreams of Parkway Hills. Let us finish strong and stay strong by remembering why we started in the first place!
See you in worship! It is a great time to invite a friend.

Safety Update: A Note from Pastor DawnWe continue to cautiously move forward and keep an eye on the Covid cases. Here is our most recent recommendation after consulting medical professionals in our church and conferring with the Leadership Team.
Masks will continue to be worn inside regardless of vaccination status. In worship, once seated, if you are fully vaccinated and feel you are sufficiently separated from other households, your mask may be removed. We ask, however, that you wear your mask during congregational singing as singing causes more risk. Everyone not fully vaccinated or working closely with children under 12 inside the building, must wear a mask.
