We thank all those Miami faculty and staff who submitted a proposal to present a session at the Original Lilly Conference on College Teaching, November 21-23 at Armstrong Student Center. If you weren’t able to submit by the June 17 deadline, good news: Proposal submission has been extended to July 5! Submit your proposal soon to ensure peer review consideration.

The latest issue of Miami’s peer-reviewed Journal on Excellence in College Teaching (Vol. 35.2, 2024) includes studies on teaching antiracism, the effects of credit vs. no-credit quizzes on student performance, and interprofessional collaboration through faculty learning communities. The issue features an article by Miami instructors Dee Kinney (Education & Society), Karen Brown (Nursing), and Jeffrey Kuznekoff (Interdisciplinary & Communication Studies) titled “Learning During COVID: Technology, Time Management, and Learner-Empowered Competence.” Note: You must be on campus or logged in through VPN to access the issue.

This article from the Journal of Applied Research in Memory and Cognition offers data showing that integrating active learning techniques, such as matching games, into lectures in STEM classes resulted in better student learning than lecture alone. The authors discuss implications, including how best to integrate these techniques.
