Speaking Torah Podcast Season 8
We are excited to release our fall season of Hebrew College's Speaking Torah podcast, which explores innovative and timely Tamid of Hebrew College adult learning experiences, including travel learning, and intergenerational and interreligious conversations about Israel.
This week we feature our episode with Rabbi Dan Judson, historian and Hebrew College Provost, who explores the historical context of Zionism, the impact of recent events on the younger generation’s views, and practical strategies for fostering open and honest dialogue within families. Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, or simply someone who cares deeply about the future of Israel and the Jewish people, this episode offers valuable insights into the changing landscape of the Israel conversation.

Hebrew College Teen Beit Midrash Debate Jewish Law
"Our students are as enthusiastic as ever. We have been learning about the interrelated topics of monetary and verbal exploitation as described in the Talmud, in Baba Metzia. The students have been very animated in their discussions about what constitutes the lines between ordinary speech and the examples of exploitation in the Talmud which looks down on walking into a shop as if to buy something when you don’t have the money to do so. The next step in our learning will be a wonderful and complex story called “the oven of Achnai" and the legal debate it sparked. I am excited to see what the students make of this and the power they have to shape not only their Jewish lives but their lives in general."
— Rabba Claudia Marbach, TBM Director

This week’s Parashah, Vayetzei, finds Jacob, the young leader-to-be of the next generation of our patriarchs, on his way into the unknown—physically, socially, and spiritually. Jacob departs alone, running from his brother and leaving behind the home and spiritual legacy he had presumed he would inherit. Like our gen-alpha, Jacob is thrust into a changing world, in which he must move confidently forward despite losing his social footing.

More than one 150 guests attended The Triumph of Life Book Launch with Rabbi Yitz Greenberg & Rabbi Sharon Cohen Anisfeld (above) at Hebrew College on Sunday, November 24. In his new book, Rabbi Greenberg tells the story of God’s relationship with humanity and illuminates the Jewish vision of God as a force of life and love. In conversation with President Anisfeld, Rabbi Greenberg explored the ways in which this ethic of powerful and triumphant life can be directed towards the challenges of our times, and the role of mindful Jewish living in this mission. The event was co-sponsored by Hadar Boston and Hebrew College.
