Lift up our Senior Pastor in your prayers!
This week, Rev. Dawn Douglas Flowers is attending the annual preaching conference, "Festival of Homiletics". This is a time for ministers to come together for fellowship and encouragement, and to be inspired by God’s Word proclaimed by some of the nation’s finest preachers and teachers. Let's pray for all participants to renew, refresh and recharge their spirits!
The faculty and staff of East Flora Elementary School could not have been more surprised or delighted to see the room full of desserts you provided for them last Friday. (It was a pretty spectacular display - thank you, Allison Jordan for coordinating this effort.) I attended the EFES Awards Day Program Monday morning - and all were still buzzing about being able to choose their own treat to share with their families. Dr. Robinson allowed me to be first on the awards program so I could leave, but when I saw all the excited students at East Flora - I could not pull myself away. After awarding an e-reader to the stunned and very thrilled student who earned the top score in the accelerated reading competition - I stayed for all the other awards. Many teachers took the opportunity to thank PHUMC for its involvement when it was their turn at the microphone. Parents came up to me afterward to report what the visit to our church meant to their children. In fact, we are still receiving thank-you notes from the classes; one class wrote, "coming to your church was the best field trip ever!" The principal is quick to credit the prayers and support from Parkway Hills for their rise from an "F" school to a "C" school. (Maybe this year they will move up to a "B"? We've supplied books, back packs of food, school supplies, and clothing, as well as sending teacher encouragement, volunteer readers to classrooms, and implementing a quarterly preschool program to help with Kindergarten readiness.) As I told them on Monday, nurturing them, nurtures us!  Please re-commit with me as we continue partnering with this neighborhood school until it receives an "A"!   Shalom,
--Rev. Philip Messner

Bundles of Bunk Bed Blessings!
The May 10th edition of the Tupelo Daily Journal ran a story on the Bunk Bed Ministry. (You may read the article here)  One reader was so moved they sent an anonymous donation. I wish I had a way to let that person know their gift will buy a mattress and bedclothes for a child without a bed.
This past week, Rick Kolar and I have delivered 12 beds. During the last delivery, when asking the family's permission to pray over the beds, the family surprised us by asking if they could pray for US!
Now, I hear our youth are planning to join with the youth from St. Matthew's UMC to stage their own Bunk Bed Blitz this June. Blessing after blessing - this is a ministry that continues to grow and allow us to share God's perfect peace and rest!
Would you like to be a part of this rewarding ministry?  Please join us for Bunk Bed Building every Wednesday night at 6:00 pm.
