Yearlong Clinical Teachers participated in Law Related Education (LRE) Social Studies professional development on February 26–27, presented by Jan Miller, Dodie Kasper, and Liz Dela Garza of the State Bar of Texas. The sessions focused on strengthening civic understanding through the rule of law, primary source documents, and children’s literature.
Presenter Jan Miller shared, “We realize that student teaching is the most important time in the career of a teacher, and we want to help them have a good start. We teach about the rule of law by using primary documents and literature. Literature is important in teaching social studies, so we provide materials for student teachers to begin building their libraries.”
SoTL Professors Drs. Jaime Coyne, Salandra Grice-Johnson, Leigh Ann Klawinsky, and Tina Valenzuela helped facilitate the event, supporting candidates as they engaged in interactive lessons and classroom-ready strategies. Dr. Susan Harte, along with other LRE Board Members, was also present to observe LRE in action and support the continued partnership.
