APC NEWS

There was a short, productive APC meeting on May 26, prior to the Work Bee. Click HERE  to read notes from the meeting. We can look forward to a new aardvark mascot costume and scoreboards for soccer and Ultimate in 2018-2019.

We gave thanks to Paul Catanzaro P21 & Diane Bigelow P14, 16, 21 for leading the APC this year. Next year Dana Stiepock P23 will join Diane as a co-chair. Grateful thanks to all parents for the time and many talents shared with the school this year. Special thanks to those parents of seniors who will be moving on with their students. Your support of APC initiatives over several years will be missed, as will you.

If you would like to help with the Staff Appreciation Lunch this coming Tuesday, June12th, it's not too late to sign up!  Please contact Meg Clark P21 or Jodi Howe P21 for more information about how to be involved.

Finally, once we receive book lists for next year, be on the lookout for communication regarding an online, do-it-yourself, book sale.

Enjoy the summer!

Consider this life-changing experience:

Hosting an international student next year!

Hendrik and Boon's Birthday brunch
A host family is needed for the 2018-2019 school year through PAX.

This year, we had two wonderful PAX students at the school: Hendrik P from Belgium and Boon P from Thailand, in addition to other wonderful students from Spain, France and Germany.

Hendrik is a stellar soccer player, has adored being able to ski nearly daily at Berkshire East and has greatly enjoyed the students and staff at The Academy. He now is a real Ultimate Frisbee fan and his brother who visited now wants to introduce the sport in Belgium!.

Boon is a fantastic electric guitar player (you may have seen him at the Spring Concert) and learned to ski this year, after seeing snow for the first time.  He enjoys the freedom American high school students have.

Both boys lived with Jackie Walsh and Graham Warder in Shelburne Falls.

"It's been a wonderful year. They are great friends to each other and just really interesting, happy people.  We've loved having them as part of the family and will always consider them part of our family," Jackie said.

Next year, it is likely a PAX student will join the 10th or 11th grades and most likely will be female.  International students from the Netherlands, China, Italy, France, Belgium, Thailand, Russia, Cameroon and other countries have really enriched Academy students'  lives (and been enriched by Academy students and their families). Many families have hosted and we hope many others will have the experience.

Please call Pax Coordinator Jackie Walsh at 413-625-9413 for more information.
