Do you know what to do when the alarm sounds? Here’s a playbook to help you stay calm and act fast in a crisis.
| Take a few minutes to note:
-
The two nearest exits from your workspace (whether it's a primary or secondary workspace)
- Your primary and secondary Emergency Assembly Points (EAP)
- The location of exit signs and alarm strobes
Don’t assume it’s a drill
Every alarm should be treated as a real emergency until the “All Clear” is officially given. Move quickly but stay calm.
Leave your workspace immediately through the emergency exits and take the stairs. Keep to the right side so emergency responders can come up if needed.
Once outside, head straight to your building’s EAP. This is where your group will be accounted for and given further directions. View all EAP locations on the SRWC EAP Map.
Who to look for
Each building has a designated lobby staff, your go-to people during an evacuation. They’re trained to manage headcounts, take rolls and communicate updates. Once at the EAP, look for the person in the orange vest, sign in and stay put.
Wait until it's safe
Even if the alarm stops, do not re-enter the building unless you receive the “All Clear” directive from the fire department, police, or authorized SRWC personnel.
