Meet the MGH COVID Corps Biomedical Internship Program's Inaugural 2020 Cohort
| |
The Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) COVID Corps Biomedical Research Internship pairs interested undergraduate, post-graduate, and medical students with established principal investigators (PIs) at MGH working on COVID-19-related research projects. We explicitly recruited individuals historically under-represented in research and science and asked candidates to share with our committee more about their background, prior experiences, and career goals. We received 238 applications in a short window of 6 days.
With this stated emphasis on diversity, we are pleased to welcome an inaugural class of 22 accomplished individuals, of whom 16 are female, non-binary, questioning, or transgender, 18 are first-generation university students, and 13 are immigrants/new Americans. 8 are Black or African American, 4 are Latinx, and 9 are Asian. Collectively, their average undergraduate GPA is 3.86.

Save the Date: Massachusetts Public Health Association Virtual Breakfast Honoring Dr. Camara Phyllis Jones
| |
Friday, September 18 9:00 - 10:00am ET Virtual Fundraiser
Massachusetts Public Health Association (MPHA) is thrilled to announce our Virtual Breakfast on September 18, 2020, to honor Dr. Camara Phyllis Jones! During the event, we will hear from this public health luminary and present her with MPHA's Paul Revere Award for her unwavering commitment to eradicate health inequities and structural racism. Dr. Jones' legacy inspires MPHA's work every day, and we are excited to hear from her during such a crucial time, as we fight for both public health and racial justice.
This event is an excellent opportunity for public health students, professionals, and activists from across MA to come together to be energized by each other and by Dr. Jones' words as we face two public health crises: structural racism—a crisis 400+ years in the making—and COVID-19. There has never been a more crucial time to stand with MPHA in our work for health equity. If you have questions about the event or are interested in sponsorship, please contact Veronica Cañas at vcanas@mapublichealth.org or 857-930-4369.
