On Saturday, June 13, when millions of soccer fans tuned in to watch Switzerland play Austria in the FIFA World Cup, Adriana Yesenia Arreola peered out at more than 67,000 fans from her perch at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, where she was working her first shift as a media operations and services volunteer with FIFA.

Welcome to a new academic year! We are off to a remarkable start. Our AACSB accreditation has been extended, we closed one of our strongest fundraising years on record, and the Lucas College and Graduate School of Business was again named to The Princeton Review's Best Business Schools for 2027.
Our community continues to reflect the innovation and impact of Silicon Valley. Through programs like the Spartan Spark Academy and students who worked the 2026 FIFA World Cup, our Spartans are learning by doing at the highest levels. Our faculty set the same standard: Professor Annette Nellen was honored with CalCPA's Distinguished Service Award this year.

This summer, Kylee Kiesow, ’20 Hospitality, Tourism, Event Management, created an interactive map of the San José Municipal Rose Garden. The interactive guide includes a clickable map, nine walking tours, curated rose profiles and family scavenger hunts. Kiesow says the rose garden was a chance to bring her expertise to something personal, and combine experience design and AI development to see what she could create.
