PDX People Customer Service Awards.
Watch the PDX People Customer Service Awards Tomorrow!
To recognize airport employees who truly stand out as extraordinary, we hold the quarterly PDX People Customer Service Awards. Winners in each category – along with their managers and members of our volunteer working committee – are invited to attend the event in person while it's live-streamed on Facebook on Tuesday, April 30
Our guest speaker this quarter is Drew Basore with Arup. Drew is part of the PDX Operation Readiness, Activation and Transition (ORAT) team – the folks that bring you updates, information, interactive Share Out Sessions and more. At this event, Drew will talk about the transition to the new ticket hall and PDX Plaza, including key information, tools and upcoming engagement opportunities.
Missed the last virtual awards ceremony? View the event recording or read about past winners on the PDX People website. You can also nominate an employee who embodies the PDX People values and serves as a shining example of great customer service for next quarter – submit a nomination now.

What’s New with PDX Next: Bag Road, Ticket Lobby and April Forum
Bag Road: Now through Friday, May 10, from midnight to 5 a.m., crews will remove facade from the exterior of the building over the south entrance to main bag road. Tug traffic will be momentarily stopped while work takes place overhead, and spotters will be present to direct traffic and pedestrians. All work will be performed from the exterior of the building and there may be elevated noise levels during work hours.
Ticket Lobby: Now through Friday, May 17, crews are installing metal panels on the south elevator core. During this work, expect periodic closures of the south elevator and down escalator. These dates are approximate and may change as the work progresses.
April Forum: Mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 30, at 10:30 a.m. to get the inside scoop on construction at PDX. Jen Reynolds from the Port of Portland along with Pat Bifone and Bri Leiblie of Hoffman-Skanska share the latest construction updates and answer your questions about PDX Next in just 30 minutes. If you'd like to join the meeting, email PDX People Communications today – Monday, April 29 – for the meeting link.
Looking for more PDX Next information? We're keeping you in the know on what's new on the PDX People website. Have questions or suggestions about construction? Email hello@pdxnext.com or call the construction hotline at 503.460.4339.

Guess Who’s Coming to PDX?!
In the coming weeks, we’re sharing some short video intros to the 12 local shops coming to the new main terminal. Can you guess which iconic brand will be coming (back) to PDX this August? From cozy blankets to stylish threads, they've been a Pacific Northwest staple since 1863...it's Pendleton!

Sign Up Now for De-Escalation Training

Our Port Police team is excited to offer de-escalation training in May, which includes information on how to report an incident or situation to the Communication Center. Sergeant Diane Stockbridge will cover methods to help de-escalate a person in crisis and Michelle Arrowsmith will give a brief overview of what information to gather and communicate to dispatchers when calling in an incident. Register now for the 90-minute sessions on Tuesday, May 14, or Thursday, May 30 – space is limited!

Go Behind the Scenes for the PDX Carpet Installation
IT IS HAPPENING. The iconic PDX carpet with somewhat of a cult following is coming back to PDX. Come August, the carpet will still be a bit of a hidden gem as you’ll only find it in areas meant for relaxing and snapping your shoe selfies. We’re also installing terrazzo floors in high-traffic areas to make it easier for wheelchairs and roller bags to glide through the airport – terrazzo has a lower carbon footprint than carpet over its lifetime.
If the 30-second carpet installation video above wasn’t enough, how about a full Oregonian article dedicated to the famous floorcovering? Intrepid reporter Lizzy Acker rolled out the fun facts and piled on the PDX pride for this loveable layer.
