JUMBO VOTE
No matter which health profession you choose to pursue after your time at Tufts, your future patients' care and your career will be influenced by factors beyond your personal skill set as a healthcare provider.
Policies can have a profound effect on all areas of healthcare - from how pharmaceuticals are produced and prescribed to what healthcare infrastructure is available to your patient populations. That is why your vote matters.
JumboVote is a nonpartisan organization at Tufts University dedicated to promoting civic engagement and voter turnout.
Please visit the Jumbo Vote website to check your voter registration status, learn how to request an absentee ballot, see state-by-state election guides and learn more.
EXPLORE A HEALTH PROFESSION: OPTOMETRY
Doctors of Optometry (ODs) are independent primary health care professionals for the eye. Optometrists examine, diagnose, treat, and manage diseases, injuries, and disorders of the visual system, the eye, and associated structures as well as identify related systemic conditions affecting the eye.
The care that an optometrist provides varies from prescribing glasses and contact lenses, to treating diseases such as glaucoma and retinopathy, to performing minor surgical procedures and providing pre- and post-operative care to patients who are undergoing ophthalmologic surgery.
Learn more about this exciting health profession and interact with representatives from over 20 schools!

SPOTLIGHT ON RESOURCES:
Tufts Counseling & Mental Health Service

Did you know that mental health needs are almost directly related to measures of academic success?
Your mental health can have a significant impact on your ability to focus, develop support networks and relationships, manage your time, and can even impact your physical health.
Tufts is committed to providing all members of our community with the tools and resources to address mental health wellbeing. We encourage all pre-health student to learn more about Tufts Counseling and Mental Health Service (CMHS) and the services they offer.
A new service being offered this year allows students to speak informally with a staff clinician at CMHS for a short (15 minutes or less) confidential telephone consultation.

Hours are M-F from 11am - 12pm and 1pm - 2 pm
VOLUNTEEER OPPORTUNITY
The global pandemic changed how we interact with one another and how we approach volunteer opportunities. Many organizations have pivoted away from in-person volunteering, but that does not make the virtual opportunities any less valuable to your development as a pre-health student!
Take a look at our list of over 100+ volunteer opportunities in the area. We will be updating this list throughout the semester, so be sure to check back often!
Here is one organization that has openings and can help you develop several competencies!
Help produce hospital isolation gowns that will be distributed to local healthcare organizations. The COVID-19 PPE Gowns Initiative, organized by Artisan’s Asylum, is looking for volunteers to complete tasks including laying out fabric, folding, and packaging at its facility in Lower Allston. All training will be provided.
Shifts run six days a week from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. in three-hour increments.
Fill out the Volunteer Intake Form to get involved.
Best,
Amanda and Ericka
