Passionate about environmental journalism? Interested in studying abroad in Belize for spring break? Join Dr. Imani M. Cheers for her trip and learn about digital storytelling, ocean conservation, coastal erosion, service-learning and Garifuna/Mayan culture.
This opportunity is for all students regardless of major, school or skill level. Applications are due December 1, 2019.

COMMUNICATING CLIMATE CHANGE IN THE 21ST CENTURY: CHALLENGES & OPPORTUNITIES 
Planet Forward and The George Washington University Debate & Literary Society invite GW undergraduate students to submit papers or speech outlines on the theme of "Communicating Climate Change in the 21st Century: Challenges & Opportunities.” Up to 10 winners will receive $100 scholarships to attend a speech workshop in January 2020, at which they will receive coaching and support while converting their outlines or papers into short speeches. The deadline is Monday, December 2 at 5 pm

Steven Roberts was honored with the Man of Achievement Award by the historical society of his hometown, Bayonne, N.J., on November 2nd.
Silvio Waisbord gave a keynote presentation "Online harassment of reporters and the risk of digital publicity" at the 5th annual conference on the safety of journalists at Oslo Metropolitan University, Norway.
ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
Dana Bash, B.A. ‘93 and chief political correspondent for CNN, was named the winner of the National Press Foundation’s Sol Taishoff Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism.

14TH ANNUAL SHIRLEY POVICH SYMPOSIUM
Join the Shirley Povich Center for Sports Journalism and the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism for the 14th annual Shirley Povich Symposium, which will focus on sports investigative journalism and Big Stories that Changed the Game. Panelists include Marisa Kwiatkowski, who helped expose USA Gymnastics and Larry Nassar.
This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

Join Matthew Frye Jacobson, William Robertson Coe Professor of American Studies and History at Yale University, for a talk that analyzes the political work that culture did in the long Civil Rights era through the middle decades of the twentieth century.
