Training for D2L BrightSpace

Dear Faculty
D2L BrightSpace will replace BlackBoard on our campus effective Fall 2022. This week we are launching the Core DLE training.  Core DLE is designed for ALL faculty.
If you are teaching remotely in Fall 2022, YOU MUST COMPLETE the Core DLE training prior to the start of the Fall semester even if you have been certified to teach remotely.

Provisional Certification

Provisional certification will now be available to anyone who completes the self-paced, on-demand core training modules:

1. Core DLE training focuses on the basics of using the D2L BrightSpace platform.  All faculty who teach remotely must complete this training. We recommend that faculty who teach only in seated formats also do the training so that their seated classes can take advantage of useful features for all learning modalities.

The total running time of the instruction is 2 hours
The training should take between 2-4 hours

2. Core Online Pedagogy is designed for faculty who teach remote courses (synchronous, asynchronous, hybrid, or extended virtual/hyflex).  It provides focused training specific to the pedagogical best-practices for remote teaching and learning.

The total running time of the instruction is under 2 hours
The training should take between 6-10 hours
Start your Core Pedagogy training now

Applications for provisional certification will no longer be required EXCEPT for new hires who do not yet have a New Paltz ID and email.
For those new hires only, please apply using this link.
Provisional certification lasts for two years, after which faculty must achieve Full Certification to continue teaching remotely.
By doing both the Core trainings now, you will be well on your way to full or recertification.  We will have more information out about this in the future.

Key Points:

  • The training is flexible.  You choose where and when you learn.
  • Most of the training is asynchronous and entirely online and you can control how much or how little you want to cover in a session.
  • Do it in a weekend or spread it out over a window of time.
  • Go back and re-review training as needed.
  • Be as active or passive as you like. Follow along step-by-step or watch the training and then practice the information later.
  • You have support.
  • We will run live help sessions for those who prefer that format, and we will record them for later review.
  • Work with your peers, peer mentors, and with instructional designers.
