Happy New Year! In 2025 we completed a Horticulture Needs Assessment for Outagamie County, it was an eye opening look at what YOU really want from our programing. Through our survey, we saw that residents of Outagamie County value information about pollinator gardening, Wisconsin native plants, soil health, and vegetable and fruit gardening. We also saw that you desire both online and in person learning opportunities (and you especially enjoy this newsletter).
Our main goal is to provide evidence-based horticulture management education, resources, and decision-making tools to home gardeners, and commercial horticulture practitioners, to keep plants healthy while protecting the environment. Here are the current services we provide:
|
|
|
- Weed / Plant Identification - If you have a plant that you aren’t sure what it is, either bring in a sample or send us a picture; we will do our best to identify it, and provide eradication methods if necessary.
-
Insect ID - Note, please limit this to plant related insects. If you start to notice chewing holes or see physical insects on your plants but don’t know what it is, contact us. We will do our best to identify and provide options for control if warranted.
- Disease problems - It's often confusing when plants start to turn brown, die off, or just aren’t thriving, we can help get to the root cause of the problem.
- Tree Problems - If you think your tree is showing signs of stress or dying, we can help! Send us a photo and we will help to assess what is going on, and determine whether you should contact an arborist.
- Information on specific topics- We can help provide information on specified topics such as fruit tree pruning, native plants, garden preparation, or rain gardens.
-
Lawn Problems - Spring is often a rough time for turf, especially in Wisconsin’s humid environment. We can provide information to help you make your yard the envy of the neighborhood!
- Soil Test Interpretation - If you completed a soil test and aren’t sure how to interpret the results, please contact us. We will be happy to help translate and create a fertilizer recommendation plan (if needed).
