Dear Cathedral family,
A truly joyful Easter to you and your family!
THIS Easter is especially meaningful for me as we celebrate our risen Lord. Why this year, you ask?
I just returned from spring break in Portugal with my family. While there, we visited our old friend, Fr. Emmanuel, who was recently appointed Vicar General of the Congregation of Holy Cross. Having never been to the Eternal City, I was in awe, indeed, of visiting St. Peter’s Basilica and seeing the tomb of St. Pope John Paul II (my personal favorite), and seeing so many other reminders that this story of Jesus is true, really true. The resurrection is an historically accurate event, supported by multiple prophecies and witnesses, that changed the world!
A visit to St. Peter’s tomb and viewing of a good-sized piece of the True Cross of Jesus was featured on this tour, as well as thorns from His crown, nails from the cross, and other relics that St. Helena collected from the Holy Land (at the age of 80, at that!).
This journey included walking on the Appian Way, a road where Peter, fleeing Rome for his safety, encountered Jesus and said to him, “Domine, quo vadis?” (Latin for ‘Lord, where are you going?”). The reply was to Rome, so Peter, the leader of Christianity at that time, realized he needed to return also. He knew, I believe, that Jesus would be with him through it all. So he returned, was crucified. upside down, and fulfilled his destiny as The Rock of the early church.
My belief has always been there, as something known but not seen. So to be there, in Rome, and to see so many signs and reminders of our faith was a gift to me and my faith. Seeing these articles, walking in the footsteps of the early church martyrs, and seeing so many current religious sisters, brothers, and priests has raised my faith to a new level--a level I did not know I could reach.
As a quick final note, we also witnessed a Palm Sunday procession through the castle renaissance town of Obidos, just outside of Porto, Portugal. I was able to photograph a little angel (seen below) carrying a chalice in leading the Stations of the Cross procession through town.

We rejoice that our entire school community has the privilege of learning and celebrating this truth. May your observance of the resurrection be just as real.
A Grateful Believer,
Rob Bridges, PhD
President

Pride of the Irish Performs in Ireland
The luck of the Irish was with the Pride of the Irish last month as they toured and performed in Ireland! Students visited many historic sites, including the Rock of Cashel, Blarney Castle and the Cliffs of Mohr. They listened to Irish music, watched Irish dancers, and performed twice. The first performance was at the President John F. Kennedy Memorial Park in Cobh. The second performance, and the highlight of the trip, was marching in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin.
This was the fourth time Cathedral's band has marched in the parade, and it has never rained! More than 170 band students and chaperones/families made the journey and created memories that will last a lifetime. Special thanks to Cathedral Band Director Kathy McCullough, Color Guard Director Lauren (McCullough) Taylor and the administration for making this trip possible. It was one our band students and families won't soon forget.
