MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Hello Sakai Families,

It certainly was a beautiful weekend to be outside. I hope you and your family were able to enjoy some time together in the sun. It’s amazing how on these short days, even just a little time in the sun can lift our spirits. My family and I were able to get to Hurricane Ridge Saturday to do some skiing and sledding. It was nice to reconnect after a busy week, and a reminder of how important it is to find time to do so. Fifth grade families, remember that entry into all National Parks is free until the end of August with the Every Kid Outdoors Pass extension.

Clearly this has been a challenging time for our students. While some days are better than others, as various rituals and joys that mark December are changed or canceled, we may find our children having some harder moments. BISD sent out a link to the Behavioral Health Toolbox for Families last week. This is a useful resource for helping our students through this difficult time. Please know you can always reach out to Beth Hebert, our counselor, if you have concerns with your child.

I am so proud of our students and their continued engagement. We were very excited by the amount of students taking advantage of our additional office hour opportunities. This will continue to be offered in our asynchronous Fridays for students to get access to academic support, enrichment activities and connection with a wide range of Sakai staff.

We have some important events this week to note:
  • Picture retakes are Wednesday from 2 to 5. Sign up here if you need retakes or were unable to attend our first school photo days.
  • School Board meeting on Thursday at 5:45. I encourage you to listen in on this meeting as it will include a presentation on reopening of schools from advisors to the Washington State Board of Health. A Zoom link and agenda can be found here at the school board site.
  • Material pick up this week is on Friday from 10 to 3. Students will have classroom materials, art supplies and book fair books. And, as always, if students have checked out books from the library they will be available to pick up. With break coming up, now is a great time to encourage your student to check out a few extra books.

Have a wonderful week Sakai!

Drew

SCHOOL PHOTO MAKEUP/RETAKES
Do you still need to have a school photo taken, or do you need to retake your photo?
  • Sign up for Make Up/Retake Day on December 9th from 2-5PM
  • We will be running the same exact safely distanced photo-taking process we used the first time at Sakai. Simply drive in the main entrance and follow the signs to the back of the school and the covered play area where photos will be taken. Please clearly write the name(s) of your student(s) on a paper to put up to your window upon arrival. This helps speed up the process.
  • A reservation is needed to ensure we avoid overcrowding and long wait times. Please take a moment to use this simple sign up to pick your time.

  • If you pre-ordered photos from the first session, your photo package should arrive soon. If you come for retakes, be sure to bring that photo package with you and return it to QSP.
