Academic Credit For Biology Research

Enrollment in BISP 99 or BISP 199
Biological Sciences offers courses in which students can earn academic credit for conducting research. An application and research plan are required for each quarter of participation. Deadline to find a research lab and apply for Winter 2018 is Friday, December 8th by 4:00PM. Details and web-based application links can be found on Research for Academic Credit.

Biology Research Internship Program

Enrollment in BISP 197
This program is a partnership between UC San Diego Biological Sciences, Academic Internship Program and the Scripps Research Institute (TSRI). Deadline to apply for Winter 2018 is Friday, December 8th by 4:00PM. Details and web-based application links can be found on the BISP 197 webpage. Program is administered by the Academic Internship Program.

Study Abroad 101 for UCSD Parents & Families Webinar

Wednesday, Nov. 29 from 5:00-6:00PM
UCSD students interested in going abroad, should invite their parents or family to join Study Abroad staff for a free webinar. This session will focus on career benefits of study abroad to financial aid and scholarship support available to students.
Parents and family members can RSVP to webinar before Nov. 29th.

Summer Research Opportunities

Medical Scientist Training Program

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)
Sponsored by UC San Diego's School of Medicine, this 8-week research program allows students to conduct research with faculty in biomedical sciences. They will also have an opportunity to conduct physican-scientist clinical shadowing. Program is open to student in their 2-4th year.
Accepted students will receive a stipend of $1,600/month.

UC Scholars Program

Apply by February 1, 2018
Summer research program supported by UC San Diego, Student Affairs. Program provides with skills to become research scholars. All majors are welcome to apply. International students attending UC are eligible to apply. Program dates are June 25-August 17, 2018.
Letter of recommendation required. Research out to faculty early.

NASA Student Airborne Research Program (SARP) 2018

Eight-Week Program: June 18 - August 10
Highly motivated undergraduates who will be rising seniors in summer 2018 can apply for participation in the 10th annual NASA Student Airborne Research Program (SARP 2018).
Students will work in multi-disciplinary teams to study surface, atmospheric, and oceanographic processes. Participants will fly onboard the NASA DC-8 and assist in the operation of instruments to sample and measure atmospheric gases and to image land and water surfaces in multiple spectral bands. 
SARP participants will receive a $5,000 stipend, a travel allowance, and free housing and local transportation during the 8-week program. Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) major are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be US citizens.

Amgen Scholars

Eight-Week Summer Research Program Apply by Feb. 1, 2018
Amgen Scholars is hosted at 10 premier institutions within the United States. Each host institution has its own application process. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency in the United States is required, and you can apply to participate at as many host institutions as you are interested in. No previous research experience necessary. Financial stipend is provided for each scholar.

Student Opportunities in Public Health

Summer CDC Undergraduate Public Health Scholars (CUPS) Program
Six internship opportunities taking place at four partner institutions across the U.S. that offer a public health workplace experience to increase student interest in minority health. 10-week summer programs for juniors and seniors. Start dates may be flexible for students coming from quarter system schools. Contact program staff for assistance with start dates.
Accepted students will receive a stipend to attend, approx. $3,000.  In addition, travel and housing costs will be covered.

Summer Research Scholarships

Undergraduate Research Scholarships (URS)

$5,000 Scholarship to conduct research in the summer!
The application cycle for 2018 scholarships is now open. Students will need to find a faculty mentor and apply before February 1, 2018.
Applications require a letter of support and a research summary. Begin your search early. You can start by selecting a research area and finding faculty that conduct research in that area. If you have question about the eligible research or the application process, please contact Sophia Tsai, the Research Scholarship Coordinator at the Academic Enrichment Program.

EUREKA! Research Scholarship Exclusively for Biology Majors

Apply by February 1, 2018
Eureka! Scholars is a highly competitive summer research training program for some of our most promising undergraduates. Under the guidance of a mentor, scholars conduct leading-edge research which greatly expands and integrates their academic learning and jump starts their role as young scientists in the discovery of new knowledge - DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 1ST.
Accepted students will receive a stipend to attend, approx. $3,000.  In addition, travel and housing costs will be covered.
