What's New with PDX Next: Baggage Claim Door Closure and MAX Platform Work
Baggage Claim Door Closure: Part of the north baggage claim area will be a construction zone starting Monday, Jan. 5, through mid-summer 2026, which means door T1861 won’t be accessible for getting to the secured area from baggage claim. Instead, you can use the south door or central door in baggage claim, or the bypass doors on the ticketing level.
- South door in baggage claim
- The central door (T18760) in baggage claim – previously restricted this will temporarily be open while the north door is closed. [Note: no carts through this door.]
- From the ticketing level on both north and south sides
MAX Platform Work: Starting Sunday, Dec. 28, through March 2026, from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., there will be construction at the MAX platform. This includes building a new TriMet lobby, demolishing the soffit/roofing and steel framing, and expanding the work area. Expect noise and periodic loadouts to the lower roadway.

Be Knowledgeable: Blue Lightning Initiative
January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, dedicated to raising awareness about human trafficking and educating the public about how to identify and prevent this crime.
We have an ongoing partnership with the Blue Lightning Initiative (BLI) – a program led by the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Transportation – to help train PDX employees to identify potential traffickers and human trafficking victims, and to report their suspicions to federal law enforcement.
Want a chance to win $50? Watch this 25-minute video about common indicators of trafficking that airport employees may encounter, and how to immediately report suspected trafficking to law enforcement. Once you're done, enter to win a $50 gift card by registering your completion by Saturday, Jan. 31.

Get Ready for Busy Travel Days at PDX
PDX is officially bustling for the holidays with more than 952,000 travelers expected between Dec. 19 and Jan. 5 – that’s a 5.9% increase over the same period in 2024!
If you know people who are traveling, pass along these tips: Plan to arrive 2 hours before domestic flights or 2.5 hours for international ones, and don't forget that 5 to 9 a.m. is our busiest time of day. Visit the PDX parking page for live updates before heading to the airport and use the new "Remember Where You Parked" tool to get step-by-step directions back to your vehicle from anywhere in PDX. Helping someone find their way in the terminal? Check out the airport map, which can estimate the walk time from point to point within the terminal while factoring in current wait times at security checkpoints or accessible routes (using elevators instead of escalators). Finally, don't forget our many accessibility resources, and that wheelchair dispatch is always just a call away at 503.460.4300.

Marsha Mack and Jessie Weitzel Le Grand Bring Playful Pieces to South Concourse Connector
A fantastical and imaginative group exhibition featuring Portland artists Marsha Mack and Jessie Weitzel Le Grand is now on view in the South Concourse Connector display case. With distinct artistic practices, both artists explore ideas of perception, playfulness, nostalgia, and mystery in their work. Marsha Mack’s sculptural ceramic vessels and suspended stoneware and glass capture her interest in candy and commercial foodstuff, the formation of identity, and the mysteries of human connection and attachment. Using an eclectic array of materials ranging from rotary phones and ceramics to natural elements and even items used in fly fishing, Jessie Weitzel Le Grand’s work blurs the lines between art, artifact, and technology.

PDX in Pictures
Did you catch sight of the llamas – ahem, we mean reindeer – at the PDX Holiday Markets? Last week brought Trail Blazers mascots popping in for surprise hellos, festive treats, and a whole lot of smiles. It’s a reminder: travel (and work) days can be fun…especially at PDX!
