Enjoy the tropical virgin forests and beaches of the Corcovado National Park. Stay in beautiful villas all with impressive ocean views, eat delicious organic foods, explore local trails to encounter abundant wildlife, hike to waterfalls and under the rainforest canopy. Cruise the lush shoreline of the Pacific Ocean on an exciting dolphin boat tour. These are but a few things that you will experience on this unique art adventure!

Renowed pastel artist Margaret Ferraro hosts this yearly Costa Rican Art Retreat in partnership with Rainforest Reef Escape, a boutique adventure company that specializes in group retreats on the Osa. We have put together a unique escape that blends both art and exploration, allowing you to fully savour the many exotic flavours of Costa Rica. 
AN ACTIVE YET RELAXING ESCAPE

Your adventure starts in San José where you will spend your first night in our lovely Boutique Hotel. The next morning, take a scenic domestic flight with Nature Air to the Osa Peninsula. It is here, in the most majestic part of the country, that your exciting art retreat begins.

Everyday after breakfast, enjoy short hikes to new painting spots and enjoy a variety of activities that will introduce you to the beauty and diversity of this lush rainforest. Afternoons are left open for you to be creative, lounge around, or continue exploring on your own. Finish the day with a sunset art workshop with Margaret or restorative yoga session with Martine to align mind, body and soul. 

You can also choose from a variety of exciting optional tours such as kayaking on the surrounding lagoon, horseback ridding, waterfall rappelling, zip lining through the jungle canopy, and our favorite, a boat tour on the Golfo Dulce to spot wild dolphins! We've included this last one! 
YOUR ART PRACTICE 

This wonderful art workshop will begin with a thorough explanation of the techniques for painting outside, how to compose on location, choosing your palette, and executing your artwork. There’ll be a lot of discussion about how to deal with stimulation, wind, noise, and all the green! Besides the topics listed below, there will be a voluntary critique every day, and as much one-on-one guidance while you are creating. Margaret will be working in pastel, but you can work in any medium of your choice.

In several formal learning sessions with Margaret, you will cover:

How to use a viewfinder, creating quick thumbnails in 5 minutes or less; Become astute to pick subjects that compliment your drawing level; Develop your ability to see value, in light medium and dark; Set up simple compositions, leaving you more time to play with colour; Colour theory, and interpreting colour into the grey scale.
YOUR ACCOMMODATION & FOOD

At the foot of the majestic Corcovado National Park is LagunaVista Villas, a stunning oceanfront ecolodge nestled between the warm Pacific Ocean and lush primary rainforest. You will be staying in lovely villas located atop a spectacular peninsula that sits surrounded by a freshwater lagoon and overlooking the beach and ocean. It also features a gorgeous infinity pool from which you can spot groups of monkeys, flocks of scarlet macaws and many other exotic animals that call this place home.

The food is prepared with the finest organic ingredients inspired by Asian, Mexican, Mediterranean, and Indian influences. Enjoy fresh ingredients and a blend of intense flavours that will enlighten your view on food and amaze your palate.
