Congratulations, Class of 2021!

Earlier this month, Indiana State University (ISU) held its first in-person commencement ceremonies since before the pandemic. Ceremonies were split up into four sessions with graduate students' commencement on Friday, May 7, and undergraduate ceremonies for each College on Saturday, May 8. Over 250 College of Technology (COT) students graduated at the end of the Spring '21 semester!
To all of our graduates - We wish you all the best in your next endeavors, and sincerely thank you for choosing ISU and COT. We would like to officially welcome you to become a new graduate member of the ISU Alumni Association!
New grads, if you haven't already done so, please take a few minutes to fill out your First Destination Survey to help the university track what's next for you and all of our graduates, whether it be employment, graduate school, or the armed forces.

Seamless transfer to Engineering

ISU and Ivy Tech Community College have entered into a transfer agreement that creates a seamless process for Ivy Tech engineering graduates to enter ISU's B.S. in Engineering program as juniors, as long as they meet the transfer requirements. "Students who are pursuing training and education beyond high school need to have options," said Steven Bardonner, Dean of the School of Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering, and Applied Sciences at Ivy Tech Central Indiana. "We are excited that with this new articulation with Indiana State University, engineering students that begin their educational journey with Ivy Tech now have additional options for completing their engineering focus." The new agreement encompasses all Ivy Tech campuses across the state.

Multi-Million Dollar Software Gift

In April, the College of Technology celebrated a multi-million dollar software donation from Esko to our Packaging Engineering Technology Program. The gift builds on over two decades of support from the company, a global developer of integrated software and hardware solutions for the packaging industry. With access to Esko’s industry-leading software programs, our students will graduate ready to launch their careers at the leading edge of the profession and contribute to a skilled workforce for Esko customers.

Give to Blue Day

Though the pandemic restricted a few on-campus opportunities for celebration, it did not keep the fun away during the 3rd Give to Blue Day on March 3, 2021. The College of Technology raised over $55,000 from 168 donors. The Dean's Student Advisory Council invited everyone who made a donation to celebrate by making a tie-dye t-shirt. Pictured here is Dean Alp getting some help from Jordynne Shelton. Thank you to all who participated in Give to Blue Day and supported students and programs at the College of Technology!
Save the Date! The 4th Give to Blue Day will occur on March 16, 2022.

Naming spaces, supporting students

Also this academic year, the ISU Board of Trustees approved the naming of two spaces in the College of Technology. The North American Lighting Student Success Center recognizes the Paris, Illinois-based company for its multi-year philanthropic commitment to support lab enhancements and scholarships for the Mechanical Engineering Technology program, STEM education experiential learning programs, and student success initiatives and networking opportunities. The Bill and Toni Biddle Construction Management Computer Lab recognizes an exceptional philanthropic gift from Troy and Pam Biddle of Marshall, IL, who endowed a new scholarship in the construction management program in memory of Troy’s parents. Troy is the President of Hannig Construction in Terre Haute and succeeded his father in that role.

National Engineers Week

On February 21-27, a week-long series of events took place virtually to celebrate the National Engineers Week. The goal of this week was to engage students in engineering and technology, promoting STEM education to future generations. We kicked off the week inviting Chris Nassif, Program Manager, Technical Support Branch, Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration Office, Federal Aviation Administration as a guest speaker to a virtual university-wide audience.
By mid-week, we partnered with Indiana State University Community Engagement, the Dean's Student Advisory Council, and Technology and Engineering Education students to create a "Stop and Serve" that involved the preparation of STEM kits for 230 students and 11 teachers at Ouabache and Ben Franklin Elementary Schools.
By the end of the week, we hosted a Sycamore Preview Day for students who have been admitted to ISU for the Fall 2021 semester. Hoping to secure their decision to attend Indiana State soon!
Last but not least, we partnered with the Terre Haute Children's Museum to pre-record videos promoting STEM education through efforts on social media.
If you would like to be involved with a STEM education effort for next year's celebration of the National Engineers Week, please reach out to the COT Dean's Office at ISU-CollegeOfTechnologyDeansOffice@indstate.edu
