Meet the Members of ASPSU
The Associated Students of Portland State University (ASPSU), PSU’s student government, is excited to kickstart the academic year. Learn more about members by looking at the ASPSU Public Roster, which lists each one’s email address, academic area of study and committees. If you’re looking for students to take part and participate in decision making, ASPSU members are here to help. While most positions have been filled, the group is also still looking for senators and judicial review board members. Please encourage students to apply.

New Utility Assistance Program for Students
The Basic Needs Hub is now an official agency for the Oregon Energy Fund. As such, we can provide utility assistance to students who qualify. In order to qualify, students must have utilities with PPG or Pacific Power and have a total gross income that is 70 percent or less than the statewide median income as determined by the State of Oregon. To learn more about the energy assistance initiative, please visit this FAQ list. At this time, if you have students who may be eligible for this program, please make a CARE referral or contact Mike Walsh.

Prevent Getting Overwhelmed with this Guided Meditation
“The start of a new school year can feel exciting... but before long, [it can] evolve into exams and stress. Although the stress can creep up quickly, it doesn’t have to overwhelm you. Instead, you can proactively learn how to handle difficult emotions. This way, you won’t become paralyzed by them as they arise, and you’ll be able to meet life’s challenges with greater ease and flexibility. One way to help yourself through difficult moments, like the overwhelming start to the school year, is to combine mindful awareness of what’s happening with a hearty dose of self-compassion. Coined by psychologist Michele McDonald and popularized by Dr. Tara Brach, the RAIN meditation does just that.”

Students dancing to the "silent disco" on Urban Plaza during Viking Days
| |
| | |
[from the vpsa]Welcome to the new academic year at Portland State University! I am overjoyed to have students, staff and faculty back on campus this fall. I will hold onto the positive feelings evoked by the laughter and the wonderful energy that we saw on campus throughout Viking Days for the rest of the year. It was inspiring to see the community come together to create positive opportunities for connections for the thousands of students who came to campus for the first time or returned to the campus they love. ASPSU hosted hundreds of students for Class Finding Days, over 450 students came to the Rec Center for Night at the Rec, and over 3500 meals were served at Party in the Park. Welcome back everyone. You have been missed!
