Swimming and Diving Memo
Good afternoon. It is below zero today, so what better time to talk about swimming and diving!
Our Board of Directors met this week and reviewed recommendations from the Swimming and Diving Advisory Committee. After review, the following items will be adapted for the 2026 season

2026 Time Standards
The following times were approved as the regular-season state qualifying standards for the 2026 season and will be posted on the IGHSAU website.

100 Freestyle                                      1:57.69
200 Individual Medley                         2:13.24
50 Freestyle                                           24.91
100 Butterfly                                       1:00.27
100 Freestyle                                         54.58
500 Freestyle                                      5:20.65
100 Backstroke                                   1:00.52
100 Breaststroke                                 1:08.01

Regular Season State Qualifying Diving Meets
The two regular-season state-qualifying meets for divers were well-received by coaches and divers this season. The advisory committee recommended that both meets be consistent in how they are run. Beginning with the 2026 season, both regular-season state qualifying diving meets will utilize cuts outlined in the NFHS Swimming and Diving Rule Book. This should reduce the length of diving meets while also allowing divers to experience championship-meet conditions.

Reminder to Diving Coaches
A reminder that diving coaches may work with their divers for 10 dates of instruction. The contact period opens the day after the 2026 Boys State Swimming Meet (Feb. 15) through the summer. Coaches are expected to provide their athletic directors with the dates that they plan to work with the divers.

Stay warm out there!
