Message from the President

Greetings friend, and welcome to the February Comfort Connection!
Back in the days of our great, great grandmother, natural remedies were in abundance. If you came down with the flu, you were fed garlic and chicken soup. Cranberries were used for urinary tract infection. Echinacea was used not just to boost the immune system, but also to reduce headaches.
As it turns out, grandma was right. Bone broth not only boosts your immune system but heals your gut and many more benefits!
About 15 years ago, a friend shared with me a little-known treatment for diarrhea. A few weeks ago, out of necessity, I pulled this treatment out of the archives of my brain. While travelling in a warm country last month, my husband and I both experienced the joys of drinking water that must have been loaded with parasites. Tummy upset and the need to be close to a toilet consumed our days. Fortunately, this happened close to the end of our trip.
The second we got home, I boiled 6 cups of water with 1 cup of brown rice for 45 minutes. I poured off the water, and we both guzzled this thick, starchy water. Within a minute or two, our tummies were settled and calmed. We still had to fight off the parasites. We were both better exactly 6 days later, but with fewer trips to the bathroom and much less discomfort thanks to this little-known treatment. Rice water works for basic flu symptoms as well if you have diarrhea and nausea. Most importantly, it prevents dehydration.
Perhaps you have not heard of using rice water, but who hasn’t heard of Imodium? There are many safe, effective, cheap natural treatments you will not see advertised on TV. There is no money in it. Although there is some value in medication, it never comes without a cost to you in the form of a harmful side effect.
Here's another drug vs natural example: you can buy melatonin in pill form to help you sleep. But did you know your body produces melatonin naturally? The trick is the room has to be pitch black. Once you remove every source of light in your bedroom, including electronics, your body produces melatonin while you sleep! It’s a beautiful thing.
I recently came across this website – it's worth checking out if you want to try a safe route to healing and health: Natural Remedies. Natural remedies come without a risk to your health.
What did we do before pharmaceuticals?

Blessings,
Katherine

Video: Stay Connected to Other Generations

In this quick video, Dr. Roger Landry reminds us of the importance of staying connected to other generations.
"When we were kids, we tended to pal around with kids our own age... and as we age, that tends to happen again."
Build intergenerational relationships to avoid becoming isolated in society!

Natural Remedies for Osteoporosis

"It’s estimated that over 50 million Americans suffer from osteoporosis.
Worldwide, 8.9 million fractures occur annually from this disease, or one every 3 seconds. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 3 men will experience an osteoporotic fracture over the age of 50. By 2050, the worldwide incidence of hip fractures in men is projected to increase by an astonishing 310% and in women by 240%.
These are not good statistics, but thankfully there is hope!"
This article shares three natural remedies and treatments for osteoporosis:

Joke of the Month

A telemarketer was making his usual round of calls and a friendly lady answered the phone. After initial pleasantries, the telemarketer asked if Mr. Smith was home.
"I'm sorry," the lady answered, "I'm afraid he doesn't live here anymore."
"I'm sorry to hear that, ma'am," said the telemarketer. "Do you happen to have his new number?"
"Sure thing!" She said cheerfully, listing off his new number.
The telemarketer hung up the phone to call the new number and was surprised to hear a recording: "Thank you for calling Green Acres Cemetery..."
