Join us at the CTE Open House in Gelman Library on Thursday, September 18, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. to meet the CTE staff, connect with colleagues, and explore the resources we offer. CTE offers one-on-one consultations by request to support you as you get started teaching this semester. 

CTE is partnering with the University Writing Program on their University Seminar Series focused on the impact of AI on writing in our classrooms. RSVP for the first session on “How do I design writing classes when my students can access AI?” on Friday September 5, 1:00–3:00 p.m., in Monroe Hall Room 113.

Lorena Barba from SEAS shares major developments and items to consider about the state of generative AI at the start of this fall semester in her brand-new preprint, "Colleagues: what to know about AI as you plan your Fall 2025 courses." The article provides important information and questions to think about as you make decisions about your teaching and course design.

Dave Karpf from SMPA writes a piece on his Substack newsletter entitled "What it's like being a political communication professor right now." As he looks ahead to his 13th year teaching at GW, he reflects on the challenges facing academia as a whole and teaching political communication specifically.

Join us in the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) workshop in September or October 2025 (date and time TBD). It is an excellent opportunity to learn about QM’s standards, achieving alignment between learning objectives, activities, and assessments, developing grading criteria and rubrics, QM's peer review process, and using QM for hybrid and online synchronous courses. The course will be offered online, as a two-week asynchronous course, for GW-only participants.

In October, CTE and campus partners will celebrate teaching at GW and continue the conversation around the Teaching Day theme, "Fostering Constructive Dialogue." Join us throughout Teaching Month for workshops, special events, a book group, and more!

This cohort-based collegial program is now accepting applications! All faculty members who consider themselves new or relatively new to teaching at GW are welcome to join. The cohort will take part in six two-hour sessions between October and March, and, in February, there will be multiple opportunities for peer feedback. For more information, visit the website.
