Programs launch 2020 annual reports
We’re proud to share the first annual report for the pediatric cardiovascular program at Children’s Minnesota. With more than 30 years of service to families and children of the Upper Midwest, we’re the region’s largest cardiac program providing comprehensive care from before birth to adulthood. Learn more about our 2020 outcomes, volumes and more here.
From the moment an injured child is met in the emergency department, the trauma team works together to provide the best possible care to promote healing and recovery. In 2020, our trauma program continued to meet past volumes as children were still getting hurt and required our help. See our volumes, program highlights and more by downloading our 2020 Trauma Services Annual Report.
Children’s Minnesota in the news
A rare discovery on a St. Paul mother’s 20-week ultrasound forced a family to make the tough decision for their baby to undergo surgery in utero. The procedure was done at 21 weeks, at the Midwest Fetal Care Center in Minneapolis. Baby Jabari was born at The Mother Baby Center in St. Paul and stayed at the Children's Minnesota level III NICU in St. Paul for 11 days.
Congratulations to Dr. Siva Chinnadurai, pediatric ENT facial plastic surgeon at Children's Minnesota, for being recognized as one of four doctors highlighted in Mpls.St.Paul Magazine for changing lives and improving outcomes with patient-centric care solutions! He is among the 63 Children’s Minnesota physicians recognized as 2020 "Rising Stars" by the magazine.
HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, is now delivering more resources and expertise than ever before when it comes to caring for newborns. It has just launched neonatal virtual care services inside its Women and Infants Center in partnership with Children’s Minnesota.

Children’s Minnesota cardiovascular team welcomes three new members
The cardiovascular team at Children’s Minnesota is excited to announce the addition of two new physicians to their team: Shashi Raj, MD, FAAP, FACC, and Erica Molitor-Kirsch, MD. Dr. Raj and Dr. Molitor-Kirsch are pediatric cardiac intensivists in our cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU). Our board-certified pediatric intensivists provide front-line coverage in our CVICU and care for critically ill children with congenital or acquired heart disease. These patients may be recovering from open-heart surgery, an intervention in the cardiac catheterization lab or waiting for a heart transplant on a ventricular assist device (VAD).
We’re also excited to announce an additional pediatric nurse practitioner, Andrea Lueck, APRN, CNP, DNP. Our skilled cardiac nurse practitioners (NPs) — are highly trained CVICU advanced practice providers and offer expert care for complex cardiac patients.

Join us for phase one at our booth starting April 30th.
Often when we think of simulation, we think of the use of mannequins to practice procedures or simulate a trauma or event, but nothing really prepares you for "real life" in quite the same way as simulating with actual human beings, or standardized patients. Listen to guest host Dr. Samreen Vora as she interviews Joe Miller, human simulation program manager at the University of Minnesota, about the use of live pediatric simulated patients or actors to simulate everything from a "mass casualty" event with multiple high school students to a difficult conversation between a transgender patient and their provider.
