Optional Attendance Processes

Please note: The information about Optional Attendance in this communication is relevant only to those families and students who are applying to attend a school other than their home school for September 2022. It is not related to your child’s learning for the current school year.

Sharing details and directions with you regarding how the system is continuing to support our Optional Attendance process. Whether students are engaged in face to face or virtual learning, schools are continuing to sign, process, forward and receive Optional Attendance forms electronically to prioritize the health and safety of our community and reduce potential COVID-19 exposures.

The following process will continue to be in place for the remainder of the 2021-2022 Optional Attendance process.

The parent/guardian can complete the Optional Attendance form (paper or digital version ELEMENTARY or SECONDARY) and can email the completed form to current school principal. The form may be sent as a digital form, scan, photo or screengrab.
The current school principal or designate (VP, office staff etc.) will email the form(s) to the receiving school. Forwarding the Optional Attendance form from the principal’s/designate’s TDSB email address will serve as confirmation that the application is being tracked and approved by the sending school.
The receiving school will confirm receipt of the form(s) by way of email reply to the sending school.
The current school will communicate with families that the Optional Attendance Form was signed, sent and received by the receiving school.

Please note that all current timelines are still in effect. Forms for secondary schools must be received by 4:00 p.m. January 28, 2022, and for elementary schools by February 11, 2022.

Elementary Optional Attendance – Key Dates:

February 11, 2022 - Optional Attendance forms due at elementary school

March 4, 2022 - Deadline for parents/guardians to be informed of the status of the application request

March 25, 2022 - Parents/guardians must inform the requested school of their acceptance of the offer

Secondary Optional Attendance – Key Dates:

January 28, 2022 - Optional Attendance forms due at secondary school

February 11, 2022 - Deadline for parents/guardians of students to be informed of the status of the application request

February 22, 2021 - Parents/guardians must inform the requested school of their acceptance of the offer via email and submit course selections via MyBlueprint

TDSB International Baccalaureate Program Update – January 17, 2022

In 2019, the Board instituted International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma annual program fees of $1,500 for Grade 11 and 12 students enrolling in the program, beginning in the 2020-21 school year.

Due to the pandemic, the IB program fees were suspended for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years. Families who had submitted payments were refunded in full.

As the future status of the pandemic remains uncertain, TDSB will be extending the suspension of fees for the 2022-23 school year. This notice has been posted on the external TDSB website and Principals of the five TDSB IB schools have also been advised to release a communication to inform their students.

Statement on the Human Rights Impacts of Omicron and School Closures

On January 13, 2022, the Ontario Human Rights Commission posted a statement on the human rights impacts of Omicron and school closures.

Students - Summer Internship Program

The City of Toronto is currently recruiting for more than 100 paid Summer Internship Program positions which will run from May to August. City divisions are looking to hire students in the following roles: administration trainee, exempt (human resources) trainee, financial trainee, IT trainee, program support trainee, research trainee, and technical trainee. Candidates are welcome to apply to multiple roles.

Program eligibility requirements:

Must be currently enrolled at a post-secondary institution
Must be returning to studies in Fall 2022
Full-time, part-time and mature students are eligible to apply
