Dear members of the Tufts community,
As we previously shared with all members of the Tufts community, an outbreak of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) originated in Wuhan, China in late 2019, and a small number of cases have now been documented outside of China, including cases in the United States. This coronavirus can cause illness that is mild — a simple cold or upper respiratory infection that can be overcome — to more severe cases that can result in life-threatening pneumonia.
The University is monitoring the situation closely in conjunction with our international assistance partner, International SOS. At this time, the risk of transmission of the coronavirus outside China remains low. While there is no reason to be alarmed, we encourage all travelers to be aware of the signs and symptoms, and to be aware of any impact to travel. Several international airports have already introduced increased screening, which primarily involves temperature checks. We are writing to you today to provide you with information that may be useful to you during your current and upcoming travels.
We are working with your international academic institutions, program partners, and local staff to keep you informed of any developments. On campus in Medford, we are working closely with Global Operations, ISOS, and other departments to monitor global situations. If you have any general questions, please reach out to our team at Tufts Global Education.
Warm regards,
